The dreams of its founding fathers took shape in 1984 in the form of
Shanmugha College of Engineering later renamed as
SHANMUGHA ARTS, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & RESEARCH ACADEMY
(SASTRA University). SASTRA offers various undergraduate and post
graduate courses in Engineering, Science, Education, Management,
Law and Arts besides Doctoral programmes and has state-of-the-art
llaboratories, a well-stocked library and best computing facilities.
SASTRA has achieved national standing in terms of academic perfor-
mance, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and also in its
growth and commitment towards social service. The standard of
excellence of our courses is reflected by the “A” grade awarded to us by
the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and in the
performance of our students in industry and academia, both in India &
abroad. A sprawling campus housing built up of 30,00,000 square feet
and having a vibrant population of over 10,000 students & 700 teaching
faculty has made SASTRA a landmark in the education map of India.

About SASTRA
![Page 3: Chemical-Engg-Placement-Brochure-SASTRA-University](https://reader030.vdocument.in/reader030/viewer/2022020211/57906d5c1a28ab68748fac65/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
The Department of Chemical Engineering at SASTRA was established in the year 1994. Later in
2002, the department of Biotechnology, Bioengineering and Bioinformatics were added and
“School of Chemical and Biotechnology” was formed in 2003. The school has distinguished
faculty members with rich experience in academia, industry and research. Interaction of students
with faculty members is highly encouraged and is reflected in the excellence of our students in
various competitive examinations, technical presentations and research activities.
Students from all over India are selected based on normalized higher second-
ary and JEE Main scores.
The programmes offered by the Chemical Engineering department are
•B. Tech Chemical Engineering
•M. Tech Chemical Engineering (5-Year Integrated)
•M. Tech Chemical Engineering
The programmes are based on Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), wherein
the student is provided with the opportunity to choose his/her course of
study.
An important feature that sets SASTRA apart is the Accelerated Course
Registration System (ACRS) in which the students are given a chance
to complete the entire course credits by the end of 7th semester, there-
by giving ample time for the student to focus on his/her project in the
8th semester. Curriculum and courses are designed in such a way so
as to meet the current industrial challenges. The courses focus on
nurturing and developing students with widespread domain
knowledge, analytical & research skills and ability to meet
industrial needs.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at SASTRA University
hosts one of the Student Chapters of the prestigious Indian Institute
of Chemical Engineers (IIChE). IIChE is a confluence of streams of
professionals from academia, research institutes and industry. It
provides them with appropriate forum for joint endeavours,
hhand-in-hand collaborations, and helps in applying chemical engi-
neering and allied science. The Student Chapter at SASTRA
University was established in January 2011 and it encourages stu-
dents to participate in events based on current Industry Defined
Problems (IDP’s to help students come up with a novel solution for
industrial problems), Process Flowsheet Development events, Paper
presentation and Idea presentation events to name a few
Chemunique features interesting articles on various topics rang-
ing from energy related problems to vital issues like budget cut
in the R&D sector. Interactive columns by alumni, faculty and
people from the industry aid in understanding the atmosphere
which is currently prevailing in chemical industries. We hope that
our humble attempt to educate and attune the students trans-
lates into making them good engineers

Conferences & Symposiums
9
National Conference on Advances in Process Engi-neering (CAPE) is the annual event of the SASTRA University student chapter of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE). The objective of this conference is to provide an inter-disciplinary forum for researchers and engineers to share and discuss their ideas on the emerging issues in process engineering. The conference focuses on all aspects of process engineering such as process development, manufacturing, and product development. The conference aims to promulgate the knowledge of the most recent advances in cchemical engineering understanding the funda-mentals and in translating the earned knowledge to specific engineering applications. The confer-ence provides an amicable platform for fruitful interaction amongst young students, research scholars, practising engineers, academicians and industry delegates through oral and poster presentations.
The first edition of the conference was held on 18 - 19 October 2013. In its second year (CAPE 2014) the conference expanded its reach and roped in industrial speakers, across spectrum, to share their rich experience with student community.
