INSPIRASI Pasien harus diperiksa dalam keadaan inspirasi penuh. ini akan sangat membantu ahli radiologi ntuk menentukan adanya kelainan intra pulmoner. Diafragma normal terdapat pada sela iga posterior ke-8 sampai ke-10 atau sela iga anterior ke-5 sampai ke-6 pada keadaan inspirasi.

Penetrasi yang adekuat pada pasien foto rontgen sangat diperlukan untuk membuat hasil yang baik. Pada film PA,ruang diskus intervertebralis thorakal harus terlihat samar2 menembus jantung, tapi detail tulang tidak terlihat jelas. Sebaliknya, penetrasi dikatakan baik saat bronkovascular terlihat jelas menembus jantung.

Pada foto lateral, dapat terlihat penetrasi dan inspirasi yang baik dengan mengamati bahwa vertebra terlihat lebih gelap ke arah kaudal. Hal ini berhubungan dengan adanya udara di dalam paru pada lobus inferior dan sedikit dinding dada. Sternum harus terlihat ujungnya, dan di bagian belakang dapat terlihat dua set iga.
