Chesterton Ofsted Report 2013/14

Why we created the reportInformation has the power to help prioritiseand personalise instruction, but all too oftenends up as a tide of meaningless data thatoverwhelms educators. We created this reportto help Chesterton see the power informationcan have when intelligently analysed, andintuitively presented.

We also wanted to improve the transparencyof Ofsted inspections, giving schools a toolthat saves time and proactively makes sureyou’re prepared in case the inspector calls.

How we produced the reportOur clever data scientists built an algorithmthat looked at 15 million school data pointsgathered from the Department of Educationand 7,152 Ofsted inspections last year, andused supercomputers to predict the likelihoodof your next Ofsted judgement.*

We then analysed the data from schools rated‘Outstanding’ and ‘Good’ last year, projectingforward results by the national rate ofimprovement, to create a benchmark showingwhere Chesterton outperformed and whereyou could improve.

The end result was then checked by currentand former HMIs and Ofsted inspectors toensure it matched what they would look forduring an inspection. The work involved a lotof coffee, chocolate bars, and staring at many, many data tables. We hope you find it useful!

*for the data nerds, this involved automatically cleaning andmatching disparate data sources, identifying overlappingcorrelations, building a dynamic multinomial logisticregression model in our big data analytics engine, andparallelising the processing of 25,000 PDFs.

How to use this report with RAISEonlineThis report is based on official Ofsted andDepartment of Education data, so can be usedahead of and during an inspection to helpChesterton prepare. More than this, we hopethat it’s shown to governors and seniorleaders to celebrate successes, prioritiseinterventions and ultimately improve schooloutcomes.

Whilst our algorithm predicts the probabilityof a school’s Ofsted inspection rating, it'sworth remembering it's not a certainty andthere are always exceptions to the rule.

You still need to check RAISEonline, as Ofstedwould use this if they inspected Chesterton. This report should be seen as a summarycompanion to RAISEonline’s detailed analysis.Show it to your governors and senior leadersto get a snapshot overview.

Accessing more analysis for ChestertonArbor also produces other reports analysingachievement gaps, and student attainment.Use these to gain more insight into theseareas, especially if this report flags these forattention. Just click the button below topurchase.

Why do I have some data missing? We do the best with what we are given, butwe're not magicians! Either the data wasn'treported to the DfE, or it was disguised topreserve anonymity, so we've listed it as notavailable.
