GAME 1: BLACKHAWKS 6, Flyers 5 - United Center (05/29/10) The Blackhawks defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-5 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final on Saturday night atthe United Center. Neither team held more than a one-goal lead at any point in the contest, which was tied at five different points, including 5-5 after thesecond period. TROY BROUWER (2), DAVE BOLLAND, PATRICK SHARP, KRIS VERSTEEG, and TOMAS KOPECKY dented the net forChicago.  Ville Leino, Scott Hartnell, Daniel Briere, Blair Betts, and Arron Asham posted goals for the visitors. ANTTI NIEMI stopped 27-of-32 shots in the win, including nine of the last ten he faced in the game. Michael Leighton started thecontest for the Flyers, stopping 15-of-20 in 35:18 of action. Brian Boucher turned aside 11-of-12 in 24:02 of relief. Philadelphia went 1-for-4 (6:46, 7shots) on the power-play.  The Blackhawks did not have any opportunities with the man-advantage. Chicago won 63% (40-of-64) of the game's faceoffs. Saturday's series opener marked Chicago's 100th consecutive capacity crowd (regular- and post-season) at the United Center, datingback to the 2007-08 campaign.

WHAT CAN BROUWER DO FOR YOU? TROY BROUWER registered the first multi-goal and multi-point game of his postseason career with two goals and an assist onSaturday. The Game 1 win marked just the third three-point effort of BROUWER'S NHL career, and the first since Nov. 9 against Los Angeles. All six of BROUWER'S points (4G,2A) in the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs have been recorded in his last six games.

 TOMAS THE TANK TOMAS KOPECKY posted the first multi-point game (G,A) of his postseason career (24 games), including his first Playoff game-winning goal in Game 1. KOPECKY has tallied six points and a +4 plus/minus rating in just 12 contests in the 2010 postseason. He recorded nine (6G,3A) ofhis career-high 21 points during the regular-season in March and April (16g), as well as a +6 rating over that stretch. The 28-year old forward became the seventh different Blackhawks player to register a GWG in the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

 VER-STUD KRIS VERSTEEG potted a goal and an assist on Saturday for his second consecutive multi-point game.  He has posted a +5plus/minus rating in those two contests. VERSTEEG has collected five points (2G,3A) in his last four contests, and nine points (5G,4A) in his last ten games.

 BOSS HOSS MARIAN HOSSA collected two assists in Saturday's win over Philadelphia, posting his first multi-point outing since Game 3 of theConference Semifinals in Vancouver. HOSSA registered a +2 plus/minus rating in the victory, and now ranks second in the NHL with a team-leading +10 rating in the 2010Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Slovakian Olympian ranks second on the club, and ninth in the league, with 53 shots on goal in the postseason.

 SPECIAL TEAM SUPREME DAVE BOLLAND gave the Blackhawks their first lead of the game with a shorthanded marker in the first period.  The shorthandedmarker was his second of the postseason.  He is the only NHL player with multiple SHG in the 2010 Playoffs. Chicago leads the NHL with four SHG during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs.  Washington is the only other team with more than one. The Blackhawks led the league with 13 SHG during the regular-season. No other team recorded more than nine. Chicago did not have any power-play opportunities during Game 1, as Philadelphia was not assessed any penalties.  The Blackhawksalso won Game 1 of the 2010 Conference Finals despite their opponent (SJS) not being called for a penalty.

 THIS IS YOUR CAPTAIN SPEAKING JONATHAN TOEWS won 75% (18-of-24) of his faceoffs in Saturday's Game 1 victory.  He ranks third in the NHL with a 59.1%winning percentage in the circle during the 2010 postseason. The 22-year old leads the NHL with 26 points (7G,19A) in 17 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The youngest captain in the NHL is three points shy of the franchise record for points in a postseason.  Denis Savard owns the markwith 29 (9G,20A) during the 1985 Playoffs.  TOEWS is one assist shy of Savard's postseason franchise mark, set in that sameseason.

 ODDS AND ENDS DUNCAN KEITH has recorded eight points (9A) in his last ten contests and has posted a +9 plus/minus rating over that stretch, duringwhich the Blackhawks have gone 8-1. ANTTI NIEMI stopped all six shots he faced in the third period of Game 1.  Over the last ten games, during which Chicago is 9-1,NIEMI has posted a .962 save percentage (3 goals/78 shots) in the third period. Saturday's win was the 13th of NIEMI'S postseason career.  He now ranks fifth in Blackhawks franchise history.  His 13 Playoff wins inone season are a new franchise record, breaking a tie with Ed Belfour who won 12 games in 1992. DUSTIN BYFUGLIEN registered a team-high ten hits during Saturday's win over the Flyers.  He now leads the NHL with 66 hits in thepostseason, while teammate BRENT SEABROOK ranks second with 63.

 WELCOME TO THE BIG SHOW The Blackhawks defeated the top-seeded San Jose Sharks 4-games-to-0 in the Western Conference Final to secure their firstConference Championship since 1992.  The club was swept in four games by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1992 Stanley Cup Final. The 2010 postseason marks Chicago's 11th overall trip to the Stanley Cup Final in franchise history. The Blackhawks have not captured the Stanley Cup since 1961, the longest current drought in the National Hockey League. The teamhas won three Stanley Cups overall (1934, 1938). Chicago has not held home-ice advantage in the Stanley Cup Final since 1971 when they lost a seven-game series to the MontrealCanadiens. Pit Martin owns the Blackhawks franchise record for goals in Final series, with five in 1973.  Bobby Hull owns the club record with 11career goals in the Stanley Cup Finals. Pat Stapleton registered a team-record 8 assists in the 1973 Stanley Cup Final.  Stan Mikita collected 21 career assists in the Final. Bobby Hull posted a Chicago record nine points in the 1971 Final.  Mikita owns the team record with 31 career points in the Cup Final.

 IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA The 2010 Stanley Cup Final marks the second-ever postseason meeting between the Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers.Chicago swept Philadelphia in the 1971 Quarterfinal, outscoring the Flyers 20-8 in the four contests. The Blackhawks and Flyers met only once during the 2009-10 regular-season.  Philadelphia earned a 3-2 win on March 13 at theWachovia Center in a game where all five goals were scored in the third period. Chicago surrendered the game-tying goal with 2:04 remaining, and Chris Pronger potted the game-winner with just three seconds leftin the contest to give Philadelphia the victory. KRIS VERSTEEG and MARIAN HOSSA both recorded goals for the Blackhawks in the loss to the Flyers.  HOSSA added an assist,and TROY BROUWER collected a pair of helpers.  CRISTOBAL HUET turned aside 31 of the 34 shots he faced. HOSSA leads all Blackhawks with 29 points (12G,17A) in 39 career games against Philadelphia. The Blackhawks have a 43-53-30 record in 126 all-time meetings with Philadelphia, which includes a 27-16-19 mark in Chicago. Chicago posted an 11-5-2 record against Eastern Conference opponents this season.

 UNFAMILIAR FOES The Blackhawks and Flyers have met only twice in the last three seasons, and only nine times since 2000-01. Only six members of Chicago's active roster (BOYNTON, CAMPBELL, HOSSA, LADD, MADDEN, SOPEL) have skated in more thanfour career games against the Flyers. Hired on Dec. 4, 2009, Laviolette, 45, is the 17th head coach in Flyers history.
