The Chicagoland Circle Cutters is a control Line model aviation club sanctioned by
the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Club meetings are held on the second
Friday of every month at the Arlington Heights public Library at 7:00pm.
Weather permitting club members can regularly be found flying at our field
Wednesday Saturday and Sunday mornings as well as Thursday evenings. Our
field is located at the south end of Rolling Meadows in the Cook County Forest
Preserves, Bussie Woods ”Ned Brown Meadow” entrance off of Golf road.
CCC November 11 2014 Meeting
The meeting started at 7:02 PM. The minutes were accepted as read.
New Business
This years Christmas party is to be held at the Barnabys Pizza where it
was last year, near Touhy & Wolf Rds. It will be December 12th, at 7:00 PM.
It will also serve as the December club meeting. Bring a gift if you want to
exchange , not required.
Junk Nite was a fun nite out. The club table was well stocked. Thanks
Steve R. for going out to pick up the donated planes from “Leester” on
Stunt Hangar. Thanks Leester for donating the planes to our club! They will
be well used!
The Club Carrier event had 7 contestants. It was a little cold, and a little
more windy. Every flight had some kind of mishap. Dennis won the day, Mike
S got 2nd, Brad got 3rd. Mike P got the closest to the center of the carrier
landing. It was a fun day of balloon popping, and touch n go’s.
Planes for Points
Alan S brought in a 1/2A Skyray. It was hand painted in a military motif.
Jordy brought in a heavily redesigned (his own design) plane. He used the
colors of a Shoestring, cheek cowls too. Monokote and Rustolium finish.
Looks great! Electric power. Cobra 2826-10 motor, 3300 ma/hr 4s battery,
12-6 left handed prop at 9200 rpm. Full flapped stunter, 63oz., 56” ws. He
said it flys great!
Steve S brought up the idea to try to increase the awareness and interest
in control line flying. He was interested in having a “learn to fly” day. Also
advertising in the local high schools, Boy Scouts, etc, to try to get some
“New Blood”. Interested party’s contact Steve.
Time to renew your club memberships! AMA memberships also. We were
off to get some pizza at 7:50 PM.

Bill Overstreet and the Eiffel Tower
Bill had followed this Bf109 from the bombers he was escorting when
most of the German fighters left. The two planes had been in a
running dogfight. The German pilot flew over Paris hoping that the
heavy German anti-aircraft artillery would solve his problem and
eliminate Overstreet and the 'Berlin Express', though Bill managed to
get some hits in at about 1500 feet. The German's engine was hit, and
Bill stayed on his tail braving the intense enemy flak. His desperation
undoubtedly growing, the German pilot aimed his plane at the Eiffel
Tower and in a surprising maneuver, flew beneath it. Undeterred, Bill
followed right behind him, scoring several more hits in the process.
The German plane crashed and Bill escaped the heavy flak around Paris
by flying low and full throttle over the river until he had cleared the
cities heavy anti-aircraft batteries.
In the spring of 1944 Bill and his P-51C, the 'Berlin Express' were near Paris when the
scene that is immortalized in the artwork by Len Krenzler.
In 2009, he was presented France's Legion of Honor William
Overstreet Jr. died on Sunday at a hospital in Roanoke, Virginia,
according to his obituary, but there was no indication of the cause of
his death.
Hero: World War II Aviator Bill Overstreet is pictured in his military days.
He was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia in 1921 and after Pearl Harbor;
he enlisted in the Air Corps as a fighter pilot. By February 1942, he
was a private and sent to California for flight training here, his
instructors prepared him for the unexpected mid-flight by cutting the
engine as he landed.
Remembered: Overstreet was presented with France's Legion of Honor in 2009.
In Virginia, aged 92, William Overstreet Jr., a former captain in the U.S. Air
Corps, passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Roanoke.”

Mystery of Amelia Earhart Solved?
Fragment from Missing Plane Identified
© Reuters This four-meter resolution image,
collected by Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite on April 16, 2001, shows Nikumaroro
Island, an uninhabited Pacific coral atoll, in the Republic of Kiribati, about 2,000 miles
southwest of Hawaii. Richard Gillespie, executive director…
Researchers at The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR)
revealed that a piece from Amelia Earhart’s vanished aircraft has been identified in
Nikumaroro, an atoll in the southwestern Pacific republic of Kiribati. This is the first
time that an artifact from the wreckage has been directly linked to Earhart’s last
expedition, in which she was attempting to circumnavigate the Earth at the equator, and
sheds new light on the 77-year-old aviation mystery.
The 19-inch-wide by 23-inch-long piece, found by researchers in 1991, is strongly
believed to be a metal fragment installed on the window of Earhart’s Lockheed Electra
aircraft during her eight-day stay in Miami, which was her fourth stop on the journey. A
photograph on TIGHAR’s site from The Miami Herald, dated July 1, 1937, shows the
aircraft intact with the metal patch.
Once the patch was identified in the photograph, researchers compared the patch with
that of the Lockheed Electra aircraft at Wichita Air Services in Newton, Kansas,
according to Discovery News. It matched the plans and the Electra’s structure.
According to TIGHAR, the patch was a field modification whose “complex fingerprint of
dimensions, proportions, materials and rivet patterns was as unique to Earhart’s Electra
as a fingerprint is to an individual.” The sheet’s purpose was for the pilot to be able to
take in “celestial observations” from thousands of feet in the sky.
The pilot, whose plane seemingly dematerialized on July 2, 1937, has prompted a wide
range of conspiracy theories, including the speculation that Earhart assumed a new
identity on a remote island in the Pacific. The new discovery debunks the wide belief
that Earhart and Fred Noonan, her navigator, didn’t actually crash into the Pacific
Ocean. TIGHAR suggests the the pair had to make a forced landing on the coral reef of
Nikumaroro after running out of jet fuel roughly 350 miles from their destination,
Howland Island.
Evidence from 10 previous expeditions to Nikumaroro led researchers to believe that
the two died there as castaways without resources. “Earhart sent radio distress calls
for at least five nights before the Electra was washed into the ocean by rising tides and
surf,” said Ric Gillespie, executive director of TIGHAR, in an interview with Discovery
News.
The fragment could very well be a part of a strange object jutting from the water on a
nearby reef, depicted in a photograph taken by a British research team in October 1937,
three months after Earhart disappeared. During TIGHAR’s last expedition, sonar
imagery spotted an object 600 feet off the base of an offshore cliff, where the
organization believes the Electra drifted into the ocean. The “anomaly” was analyzed by
a sonar data post-processor based in Honolulu, identifying it to be the right size and
shape to be part of Earhart’s aircraft. The organization believes that the rest of the
Electra’s remains are buried deep off the west end of the island.
TIGHAR, which has long been investigating Earhart’s disappearance, will make another
journey to Nikumaroro to further investigate the anomaly using remotely operated
vehicle technology. The organization is currently seeking funds to make this journey
happen, and to resolve the mysterious surroundings of Amelia Earhart’s untimely
disappearance.

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to
when they could discuss his use of the car.
His father said he'd make a deal with his son, "You bring your grades up from a
C to a B average, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut. Then we'll
talk about the car."
The boy thought about that for a moment, decided, he'd settle for the offer,
and they agreed on it.
After about six weeks his father said, "Son, you've brought your grades up and
I've observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I'm disappointed
you haven't had your hair cut."
The boy said, "You know, Dad, I've been thinking about that, and I've noticed
in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had
long hair, Moses had long hair, and there's even strong evidence that Jesus
had long hair."
Then Dad reply’s
"Did you also notice they all walked everywhere they went?"
