Chichester MG Owners' Club Newsletter August 2019 Introduction Welcome to our August edition of the Chichester MGOC newsletter. July has been a month of many different events, starting with a run to The Royal Oak in Midhurst (my thanks to Michael and Alice for putting this together), followed by Epsom MGOC's Surrey Run, and a BBQ at Betty and Trevor’s. Of course, Festival of Speed was a great car event attended by many of our members where I even saw some familiar faces amongst the marshals, Alice and Michael! (See below) It is also so nice when we as a club can make a wish come true, and so it was with great pleasure that we made a ninety-year old’s birthday a special day (see article in this newsletter). August promises to be another great month, and I hope you can come along to some, if not all, of the events we have planned. I hope you enjoy this newsletter, and please don’t forget to let me have any news or interesting articles for next month. Thanks Andy Harris Area Sec. Chichester MG Owners' Club Newsletter August 2019

Introduction

Welcome to our August edition of the Chichester MGOC newsletter.

July has been a month of many different events, starting with a run to

The Royal Oak in Midhurst (my thanks to Michael and Alice for putting

this together), followed by Epsom MGOC's Surrey Run, and a BBQ at

Betty and Trevor’s.

Of course, Festival of Speed was a great car event attended by many of

our members where I even saw some familiar faces amongst the

marshals, Alice and Michael! (See below)

It is also so nice when we as a club can make a wish come true, and so it was with great pleasure that

we made a ninety-year old’s birthday a special day (see article in this newsletter).

August promises to be another great month, and I hope you can come along to some, if not all, of

the events we have planned.

I hope you enjoy this newsletter, and please don’t forget to let me have any news or interesting

articles for next month.

Thanks

Andy Harris

Ninety-year-old birthday treat We were approached by Lynn, the daughter of a

gentleman who has a lifelong love of MGs. His last

MG was a TD, and his daughter wondered if we

could arrange a TD to pick him up for a surprise

birthday party. My thanks to David Blackford who

came to her rescue and made a ninety-year-old very

happy ! (My thanks to Barry for being ready to help

too)

AND A FEW MORE WORDS FROM ‘DRO 69T’ –

Henry’s little black MGB Roadster, after returning from her ‘2019 Brittany Tour’

”I hope HE doesn’t want me to start swimming lessons at my age”

After a long ride, a welcome sight.

Review of our July events

Club night – We had a great

evening run to the Royal Oak in

Midhurst via a terrific scenic route

organised by Alice & Michael. We

gathered on a lovely sunny evening, and

after chatting and looking at some lovely

cars we all set off. Only a few

navigational mistakes were made by

participants. I know I met an MG going

the opposite direction! Could not have

been me that went wrong!!! Once we

arrived at The Royal Oak we all enjoyed

a friendly welcome. A great evening

which I will remember for a long time.

Another great Gala. A big thank you to all who attended, and to David Coward for organising our

attendance.

MGs in the paddock held at Trevor and Betty's home.

We had a great afternoon

relaxing in the sun with our BBQ.

Our thanks to Trevor for all his hard work in preparing the area for us, and to Betty for all the food

and drinks provided.

The Epsom Surrey Run started at Bocketts Farm near Leatherhead, following a scenic route

which covered a distance of about 65 miles, finishing at the Rural Life Centre Farnham.

An interloper at our BBQ! Oh, well

if you are going to have one may

as well make it an Aston Martin

DB!

‘Chichester Wales Tour, 2020’

Following our announcement of the Tour last month, we

thank everyone for their tremendous response and can

now advise that the Tour is almost full.

While our two hotels in Tintern (near Ross on Wye) and Betws-y-Coed still have some spare rooms,

our ‘Guest House’ accommodation for 4 nights at ‘Llanerchindda Farm’ is full. However, they do have

space in their dining room for two more people so we can accommodate one more car with two

persons on the basis that those two stay are in a local B&B nearby.

The Tour is centred on a three day/four night stay at ‘Llanerchindda Farm’ (www.cambrianway.com),

who shall provide afternoon tea, dinner, bed and breakfast, and organise scenic tours on each of the

three days during our stay. On route to Wales, everyone will have the option of a one night stay at a

hotel in Tintern. There will also be a further option of extending the Tour after our stay in the Brecon

Beacons, with a one or two-night stay in a hotel in Betws-y-Coed; perhaps to walk up, or take the

vehicular railway up to the summit of Snowden! or visit some of the many castles and places to see

in North Wales.

The costs for the total seven night Tour staying at Llanerchindda Farm and our two selected hotels

will be approximately £590 person in a double room, or £690 per person on a single basis. For full

details and the costs of a shorter Tour, please contact Colin or John as soon as possible.

Hospital regulations require a wheelchair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he didn't need my help to leave the hospital. After a serious chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator. On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him. 'I don't know,' he said. 'She's still upstairs in the bathroom

changing out of her hospital gown.'
