UTTARAKHAND TSUNAMI- GMS TEA M DISTRIBUTES RELIEF MATERIA L TO VICTIMS AT THEIR DOORSTEPS Throughout the years, Mohyals are known for their valour, philanthropy and heroism. In response to the clarion call, given to the community, by Mohyal Ratna Rzd. BD. Bali, President, GMS, Mohyals rose to the occasion once again to meet the challenge of the Himalayan Tsunami. lt was the decision of Rzd. BD. Bali to distribute the relief material the sufferers directly, instead of giving cash grant to any distributing agency of the Central or State government.

The first consignment of relief materials was flagged off by Mohyal Ratna Rzd. BD. Bali, from the Mohyal Foundation, New Delhi, on the 19th

September 2013. These consisted of blankets, jackets & sweaters durees, tarpaulins and umbrellas.

The Relief Team, under the leadership of Shri Yogesh Mehta, Secretary (Youth \Aing and Cultural Affairs), and consisting of S/Sh. Ashwani Bakshi, Sanjeev Bali (Bunty), Sanjeev Rai Vaid, Nirmal Vaid and Rakesh Vaid, left Delhi, on the 19th September 2013, and reached the Mohyal Ashram, Haridwar, on the evening of the same day. The next day, they left for Joshimath and spent the night at Helang NTPC Guest House, which formed the base of their operations, for the distribution of the relief material at the village level.

The distribution ofthe reliefmaterial began on the 2lstSeptember2Ol3, at Noni Khandara/Hindoli, DistrictChamoli, with the help ofthe Village Pradhan, Shri Mahender Rawat. This was followed by the distribution at Lambagarh & Kherogaon, Dist. Chamoli, with help of the Village Pradhan, Shri S. Chauhan; and at Taetna Block Karan Prayag, Distt. Chamoli, under the guidance of Shri Bharat Singh Pokharial.

Throughout the venture, the team was greatly helped, and guided, by Shri Bharat Singh Pokharial, whose legendary rescue operation, in saving many precious lives in the ill-fated bus episode, is remembered by all. His presence injected fresh inspiration and zeal among the team members, who braced themselves for any hazardous task. The Team was deeply moved, when they saw the horrors of the tragedy and the destruction all along the way, and admired the spirit and tenacity ofthe people, who had faced this tragedy, with such fortitude, patience and gallantry. The Team was also greatly impressed by the undying honesty and integrity of the suffering people, reflected and symbolized by a lady's example. She had come back to return the surplus set of relief material to the Team, saying that she had received two numbers of relief material, by mistake. At some places, the Team found

despite all variations and differences. The members of the Team shall neverforgetthese memorable days. They have been humbled and, at the same time, inspired by the gratitude of our brethren living in the Hills.

Besides Shri Bharat Singh Pokharial and the Pradhans of the different villages, the GMS is thankful to S/Shri PP. Sharma (General Manager NTPC), K.K. Agarwal (AGM), RK. Demri (AGM), Naginder Juyal (Sr. Manager) and J. Oswal (DGM). Necessary encouragement was also provided by the representatives of both MS Dehradun (SI Shri Rajesh Mohan, Yashwant Dutta & Parmod Mehta) and MS Prem Nagar, Dehradun (SIShri Boney Bali & Harsh Bir Mehta), who had specially gone to Rishikesh, on the morning ofthe 20th September2013, to see offthe GMS Team.

A SONNET Let not the realities haunt me today.

Offuture ofsorrow, ofpain, I

know full well,

Whatthese phantoms have gotto tell.

Oh take these pictures, take these horrors, away.

True, I will soon be drinking my tears to survive, But today let me drink from thine eyes.

This day is immortal, this day is paradise.

Let me fill my coffee with memories to revive.

Time is short while love has enemies to fight. Perhaps, in the growing agonies, life may expire Oh! Murderous, the very thought blinds the sight And we may part with an unfulfilled desire. Let thoughts of the future not wreckthis day,

Since today we are together both happy and gay.

Humility exalts man to the heaven ofglory andpower, while pride abases him to the depths ofwretchedness and degra- dation ..... Those who are the beloved of God, in whatever place they gather and whomsoever they may meet, must evince, in their attitude towards God, and in the manner of their celebration of His praise and glory, such humility and submissiveness that every atom of dust beneath their feet may attest the depth of their devotion.

Leader-in-Chie f- Mohyal Ratna Rzd. BD. Bali Ji 'One of good family, morals & qualities, keeper of all laws, astute, and responsible, should be appointed Leader-in-Chief (Justice Provider)'

There are three merits for a leader in engaging the wise: a

good reputation, living in paradise and great enrichment.

There are three disadvantages for a leader in engaging fools: a bad reputation, impoverishment and also going to hell.

Therefore, a leader should always associate with the virtuous and avoid the virtue-less, so thatjustice, pleasure and prosperity may grow.

A leader should reject colleagues, who are hypocritical, deceitful, destructive, irresolute and unenthusiastic, incompetent, and cowardly.

One who is cruel, dissolute, avaricious, irresolute, tactless, unruly and extravagant should not be appointed to a position of authority.

One, who lacks patience and devotion, who is rivalrous (vengeful) and greedy, and who is incompetent and fearful, should be rejected by a leader.

We are blessed with a leader, Mohyal Ratna Rzd. B.D. Bali Ji, who has stood the test of time. Let us pray to God that his outstanding leadership qualities keep on illuminating the Mohyals for all times to come.

GMS President Visits Inderpuri Mohyal Bha wan

C. The second wife is our family and friends. No matter how close they had been there for us when we're alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.

Rzd. BD. Bali, President GMS, accompanied by Sh. PL. Mehta, Member-Election Committee, Sh. P.K. Dutta, Sh. DV. Mohan, Sh. Yogesh Mehta and Smt. Sunita Mehta made a surprise visit of Mohyal Bhawan Inderpuri on 2nd

October 2013 and found tha Bhawan in a very neat and clean condition with green and pleasant environment around.

MAN & HIS FOUR WIVES There was a man with four wives. He loved his fourth wife the most and took a great care of her and gave her the best.

He also loved his third wife and always wanted to show her off to his friends. However, he was always had a fear that she might runaway with some other man.

He loved his second wife too. Whenever he faced some problems, he always turned to his second wife and she would always help him out.

He did not love his first wife though she loved him deeply, was very loyal to him and took great care of him. One day the man fell very ill and knew that he was going to die soon.

He told himself, "I have four wives with me. I will take one of them along with me when I die to keep company in my death."

Thus, he asked the fourth wife to die along with him and keep company. "No way!" she replied and walked away without another word.

He asked his third wife. She said "Life is so good over here. I'm going to remarry when you die".

He then asked his second wife. She said "I'm sorry. I can't help you this time around. At the most, I can only accompany you till your grave."

By now his heart sank and he turned cold

Then a voice called out: "I'll leave with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go."

The man looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the man said, "I should have taken much better care of you while I could have!"

Actually, we all have four wives in our lives.

a. The fourth wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it'll leave us when we die.

b. The third wife is our possession, status and wealth. When we die, they go to others.

THE IDEAL STUDENT "Learn your lesson and learn them hard.

Be an honest student and never miss a class.

Always think calmly and never be in haste.

Always think calmly and never make mistake.

Be a bold youth in this stormy age.

Do what you like, but always keep awake. Beware ofyour money, else you may starve.

Beware ofyour dignity, else you may be laughed at.

At least you may choose, but one and only one.

Do not keep a keen eye on each and everyone" Prof. V.K.Datta

A TargetAchieved-A Dream Realized MasterAkshat Dutt, sto Dr. Anil Kumar Duff, MD, & Dr. Rama Dutt, Ph.D., r/o B-7, Koel Nagar, Rourkela, has achieved his

set target - a seat in MBBS at JIPMER (Jawahar Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research), Pondicherry. Having been selected by all the institutes he appeared for test in 2013, he preferred JIPMER for its name and fame.

He has a number of laurels to his credit, but a few are noteworthy, (1) NASA Space Settlement Design Contest 201 1 . His team from DPS Rourkela won the 1 prize. They were felicitated at the

International Conference atAlabama in June 2011 (MM July 2011). (2) GMS-sponsored PMVSamman 2010 Class 101h Boys Computer Science Award by Puneet Duff Memorial Trust (Rs. 2000/- & Trophy). (3) Sahodaya Education Society of CBSE Schools North Orissa - felicitation of Akshat Dutt for his achievement, in August 2013, at Bhanjo Bhawan, Rourkela (represented by his grandfather, Shri R. B. YOUR MIND DEFINES WHAT YOUARE Proceedings of Uttarakhand Youth -ConsciousMind& SubconsciousMind Mohyal Mela, Prem Nagar, Dehradun At the Rotary Club of Ambala, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, from the California Hypnosis Institute, recently spoke on the subject of Hypnotherapy to cure difficult diseases like cancer, heart, migraine, acidity and a host ofsimilar ailments. He stated that only 10 percent of our life is governed by our conscious mind and sensory capabilities; and the balance 90 percent is governed by our subconscious mind. The quality of our life and the quality of physical and mental health are determined by our subconscious mind.

Most of us believe that our educational qualifications, hard work and social connections determine the quality of our life, but, in fact, it is the human mind, consisting of thought, system energy levels, hormones, body immunity levels etc and other organs, the biological system, which makes us happy or unhappy in life.

Mind is not the organic brain on the top of our body; rather it is an intangible energy aura around our body, which is essentially created and generated in our system through positive internal and external stimuli, and value systems, inculcated and evolved by our DNA, family, society and our own efforts.

A look at some of the World Class Achievers proves that it is only the very ordinary and disadvantaged people, who perform exceptionally well in life and attain extra-ordinary heights. In 2011, 61-year old Rhoda Graham, a one-leg amputee, scaled Mount Everest. After scaling the peak, she exclaimed with joy and said, " A leg does not define who you are". Oscar Pistorius, both of whose legs, below the knees, were amputated, when only 11 months old, won Gold Medals in the 2012 Summer Paralympics, in the 400- metre race and 4 x 100 metre Relay Race and set world records, 26 years later. Born in extreme poverty, Jamaica-born 26-year old street boy Usain Bolt set World Records in Olympics, winning six times Olympic Gold Medals in 100 Metres, 200 Metres and 4x100 Metres relay race. Paul Whittakar scaled Mount Everest with Iwo prosthetic legs (both his legs were amputated due to frost bite, in one of his earlier mountain expeditions).

The moral of the story is that it is the state ofyour mind that determines the state of your life. Each one of us spends a large segment of our life in harbouring jealousy, nursing ill feelings, back-biting, criticism, envy and hatred. In the process, we reduce the release of positive hormones in our body, pessimism haunts us, and energy level goes down. Human metabolism fails, sometimes your heart; your kidney; your spine; or sometimes, your pancreas, and, quite offen, your brain.

Mr. Sandeep Kumar described how, at one stage, three terminal cancer patients survived for ten years and at the other stage, one cancer patient died within one year because of the positive, and the negative state of mind, respectively. Yuvraj Singh recovered from lung cancer at Boston and bounced back in cricket by sheer grit and determination of positive thinking. If one adversity happens in your life, hundred other positive opportunities and positive people await to take you ahead in life. This life is gifted by Almighty; let us thank Him for everything he has gifted. Let us believe that we are the repository of infinite positive potentialities and capabilities in our life. Let us remember that we are mostly surrounded by pygmies and negative energies. We are exposed to negativity through television, newspapers, intrigues, movies, and other media exposure, instigating lust and greed. We have to cultivate a positive mind through study of our scriptures, befriending positive people, sharing our grief and problems with time-tested friends, and listening to the spiritual teachings of our great Gurus; and practising Pranayama and meditation, to strengthen our positive mind, which is the key to a Happy Quality of Life. After all, it is not your leg that defines you, but it is your Mind that defines who you are.

Sonia Datta (22.09.1970- 06.04.2006) "Remembering Sonia Datta" "lt can happen to anyone. Des- tiny can strike suddenly, changing one's life forever.

God has plans for everyone. The wisdom and kindness of God is beyond our mind's

reach. We can only try to un- derstand it, ifwe surrender to- tally to God and have deep faith. The way to deal with cri- sis and life-threatening situa- tions is to resolve to do our best and let God do the rest.

When there is birth, there will be death too. lt is the univer- sal law of nature, yet the hu- man mind does notwantto ac- cept this truth. When a loved one dies, our minds become numb. We wantto cling on, we refuse to let go ..... because of our worldly attachments and relationships. Lord Krishna says in the Gita "For the soul there is neither birth nor death. Nor having once been does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain". The way to remember your loved ones, who have quit the race oflife, isto make their loss your strength, so that it transforms into power that makes you strive.

Death is the unwelcome visi- tor and often comes unan- nounced. For some, it is pain- ful;, for others, too sudden. Each soul is bound up in its own Karma, even from previ- ous births. In such a loss, win- ners are those in the race of life, who have faith to follow their dream. God has plans for everyone. Karma reigns pow- erful and supreme. Blessed are those, who listen to their hearts and have passion to fol- lowtheir dreams .....

Many a time you will swim against the tide/Many a time will relationship fail/ But, do not stop pursuing your dream/ Strive ahead and etch your writing on the wall.

The death of a loved one can throwyou into deep depression and can wreck you emotionally, physically, mentally. But re- member, there is not a single person out there, who has not suffered this pain. Death is universal. Dealing with the loss of a loved one is not easy; you have, however, to face it, by holding your wits together. For, yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is the most important of all... Live every moment to the full ...... who

knows when God might call? When my daughter Sonia died, I was devastated. . I was tempted to give in to emotions ofrevenge, anger, resentment. Could this turmoil bring back my daughter alive? No.

lt was difficult, but I chose to follow the path of love, kind- ness and good Karma. Why let the loss of a loved one go in vain? Why should deep de- spair increase the gnawing pain? lt is beffer to illuminate your heart and soul with memories ofyour shining star -and you will realize the truth, that heaven is not really that far.

. Lt. Col. MNC Dutta & Smt. Shakuntla Dutta: It is eight years since you both left us, but you are always alive in our

,ç hearts and in every moment of our lives. No words can ex- press our feelings on your loss. You both were always there to help and support us through our good and bad times, no matter what. You understood our problems, accepted our faults and taught us, by your example, the value of hard

work, good judgement, cour- age and integrity.

As we look back over time, we find ourselves wondering whether we remember to thank you enough, for all that you both have done for us? Both of you have left us with so many beautiful and precious memories that will be cher- ished forever. If we have for- gotten to show our gratitude enough for all the things you did for us, we are now than k- ing you from the core of our hearts.

We all remember you, not how you died, buthowyou lived; not what you gained in life, but what you gave. These are the units to measure the worth of a man as a MAN.
