IthinkIhaveitfiguredout!Yes,Ido!Hmmm…letmetellyouabitmoreaboutthesituation.Ihategettingbitbyabug.Itseemsthatnomatterwhoelseisaround,onceitstartstogetdark,thesepeskycritterscomeandfindme.SoIhavedecidedtowearthismosquitonetallofthetime.There!Problemsolved!

Therearesomeplacesintheworldwherethebiteofamosquitoisverydangerous.Itcanmakepeopleverysick.Oftenthosepeople—babies,boysandgirls,evengrownups—getsosicktheydie,becausetheycan’tgetthemedicinetomakethembetter.TheUnitedMethodistChurchisdreamingofaworldwherenoonewilldiefrommalaria.Imagine,NOmalaria!Howarewegoingtostopthisdisease?Onewayisbymakingsurethatpeoplewholiveinareaswherethemosquitoscarrythediseasehavetreatednetstocovertheirbeds,sotheydon’tgetbittenatnightwhiletheysleep.Let’spretendI’minbedsleepingwithmyfamilyinanareaofAfricawherethemosquitoscarrythemalariavirus.Alongcomethemosquitoslookingforsomeonetobite. (The youth helpers carry in the mosquito puppets and pretend they are looking for someone. They come near the speaker and gently tap the net as if trying to bite.)

Themosquitoscan’tgettothefamiliesasleepunderthetreatednets.ThroughourdonationsandtheworkofUMCOR,wearegivingnetstofamilies.Weareteachingfamilieshowtousethenets,andalsowhattodotohelppreventthemosquitosfromgrowingintheircommunities.Wearehelpingtobuildclinics,providemedicaltests,andprovidethemedicinetheyneed.PeoplealloverTheUnitedMethodistChurcharedonating$10tobuyanet.HereisapictureofafamilywhohasinstalledanetintheirhomeinAfrica.(Show picture.)

Dear God, we pray for all of the people who live in areas where there is malaria. We especially pray for those persons who are sick with malaria and ask that you let them feel our love. Help us to work together to find ways to stop malaria from hurting anyone else. We thank you for everyone who has donated a net and for those persons who are working with UMCOR to give those nets away. Help us to create a world where there is no malaria. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
