1.  What is it that SHFL IT doing? !

2.  What kinds of solutions are we looking at? How will we choose? When?

3.  Why are we here today? Why prototype at all? Where do these ideas fit with the replacement of KiDS?!

4.  What are we going to see today? How do we determine which ideas to pilot? What’s next? !

5.  How to stay involved? Where can I get more information?

… some questions

1. What is it that SHFL IT is doing?

Page 4: ChildStory District Solutions Showcase - Main Presentation

ChildStory

… why can’t the technology I use at work be as good as the technology I use at home?

… I want to tag information, search (not navigate) for children’s records, I want to see a timeline of their history (like Facebook), get access to a stream of relevant information (like twitter) and be able to view it anywhere on any device

”

ChildStory

… at WAM we typically see a summary of a child’s history in terms of all the helpline reports we’re received there is rarely information about what we did, there is nothing about what the outcome was, or the child’s wellbeing … intervention decisions need to be based on a genuine narrative about a child

1.  Better support

caseworkers !(workflow, mobility, simplicity, …)

Five six types of technology …

= current solutions

A new ‘ecosystem’ of solutions is required to support casework, technology can …

Page 7: ChildStory District Solutions Showcase - Main Presentation

ChildStory These solutions must do more than create !reports; they must allow FACS, families and our partners to build a narrative about a child. To tell a child’s story.

Front line systems replacement …

ChildStory

… so fed up reading home visit notes that state "H.V undertaken. All well in the placement. No concerns from carer" …

Records need to be written as though explaining to the child/yp what happened/occurred. All records are short stories for children to piece together. This needs to given prime importance whilst maintaining brevity.

2. How are you choosing / designing the new solutions?

When is this complete?

… we then go to market to purchase and implement these solutions in lead districts

3. Why prototype? Where do these ideas fit with the replacement of KiDS?

•  “Traditional” Government

ICT Procurement and

Design rarely works –

particularly from the

perspective of a user

•  The SHFL co-design

methodology is a chance

to understand real issues

from scratch

•  Light, fast prototyping is a part of this. A chance to test ideas in the

field … and to quickly “fail or scale”

ChildStory Why Prototype?

Page 17: ChildStory District Solutions Showcase - Main Presentation

ChildStory There are 3 possible outcomes for the prototypes we have been working on with you …

Progress to Pilot in the field

1 Formally assessed as having the potential to immediately help caseworkers, Kids / Families. Technically feasible. Probably a unique solution. District / CSC with capacity to pilot

Further design and prototyping required

2 Solutions need further testing and / or refinement. May not be technically feasible or practical at this point. May or may not be progressed to full pilot

Stopped 3 No further prototyping or design required at this point.

… all prototypes are fed into the market process for mid 2015

Page 18: ChildStory District Solutions Showcase - Main Presentation

4. What are we going to see today? What’s next? How do we determine which ideas to pilot?

ChildStory The ideas

From the ICT Event in October:

•  More than 220 User Stories (including issues, opportunities and case for change …) 21 priority ideas, a number of which were prototyped on the day!

•  8 prioritised for immediate District-based prototyping. Released to market, vendors engaged, matched to districts

Today:

•  Review the concepts as designed. Ask questions / challenge!

Page 20: ChildStory District Solutions Showcase - Main Presentation

5. How to stay involved? Where can I get more information?

Specific Workshops and Work shadowing Diary Study

•  The diary Study helps us to understand FACS workers needs, pain-points and how IT systems can empower staff to better support children, young people and families.!

•  As we can’t speak to everybody, this study provides a valuable way for us to hear the view of a wide range of FACS staff.!

•  It’s really easy to do and doesn’t won’t take too much time. !
