DESCRIPTION

Global Learning for Educators webinars are offered free twice monthly, September 2012 - May 2013. Please visit asiasociety.org/webinars for details and registration. The most robust, dynamic, and successful language programs connect language learning with other interdisciplinary and authentic learning—within the school and out in the wider world. Through Asia Society's new website, China and Globalization, you can access a framework and interactive materials for teachers and students to take part in this kind of learning. Chinese language and Social Studies teachers alike will find this site to be a valuable resource. Join us for an introduction to China and Globalization and to hear from a Chinese teacher who has used these units in her classroom and expanded them to suit the proficiency levels, interest areas, and dynamics of her students.

Presenters: Eleise Jones, Education and Chinese Language Initiatives, Asia Society Rongfen Sun Burford, Chinese Teacher, Tyee Middle School, Bellevue, Washington

A  long  7me  ago,  there  was  an  emperor  who  managed  many  kingdoms.  Black  Kingdom,  Green  Kingdom,  Flower  Kingdom,  Mountain  Kingdom,  the  Kingdom  of  Tieguanyin  and  the  Oolong  Kingdom.  Each  kingdom  has  its  own  tea.  One  day,  the  emperor  said  his  favorite  drink  is  black  tea.  So  everyone  started  buying  red  tea  and  the  Red  Kingdom  became  very  rich.  The  other  kingdoms  became  angry  because  they  wanted  to  be  very  rich.  .  .  .

Many  years  ago  in  China,  lots  of  people  came  to  Master  Li’s  castle  to  give  him  tea.    He’s  very  powerful,  so  everyone  wanted  to  see  him.    Master  Li  likes  a  variety  of  tea,  so  everyone  gave  him  different  types  of  tea.

One  day,  Mingming  Lin  came  to  his  house.    Mingming  is  mean  and  clever.

He  said  “Master,  I  hope  you  like  my  tea.”

He  gave  his  tea  to  Master  Li.

Master  drank  the  tea  and  said,  “This  tea  is  really  good!  I  like  this  one  the  most!  What  tea  is  this?”

“This  is  beer.”
