sOutput of scientific papers: Growing fast

The number of China’s SCI papers is second to that of USA,

ahead of the third (UK) about 40000.

Share of SCI papers in USA, China, EU

The number of China’s SCI papers may surpass those of USA and EU by 2018.

Digital Database

The digital products of China’s scientific journals are

controlled by technology providers: integrate full-text

data, get the main revenue

CNKI (China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database): ht

tp://www.cnki.net, established in 1999

WanFang Data: http://www.wanfangdata.com.cn, establishe

d in 2000

VIP: http://www.cqvip.com, established in 2001

AMLC (CNKI): Academic Misconduct Literature Check

Developed in 2008;

Integrated several languages: Chinese, English, Japanese, Russ

ian, etc.;

Based on CNKI and 16 overseas databases (Springer,Taylor &

Francis, Wiley, OUP, etc.)

Users: ~ 4500 journals/publishers, ~ 1500 research institutio

ns and societies;

Detected Literatures: >6 M.

NSTL ( National Science and Technology Library): 17000 Js; CALIS (China Academic Library & Information System) : 8000 Js; CASHL (China Academic Social Sciences and Humanities Library): 11800Js

The use of digital identifier in China

Every digital database developed its own object identifier. No unified standard rules. (CNKI, WanFang, VIP, Apabi, etc.);

It is important to have a unique identifier for cross-database searching;

Agency and members of DOI (CrossRef) in China: Wanfang Data Co., Ltd (agency)

Scicence China Press; Journal Publishing Center of Science Press; Journal of Zhejiang University… (members)

Page 18: China: Journal Publishing, DOI and CrossCheck (2011 CrossRef Workshops)

DOI Agency in China: Wanfang Data Co., Ltd.

Began in 2007

Registered items: 1.63 M, (1349 journals enrolled,

11 of them are English edition)

Page 19: China: Journal Publishing, DOI and CrossCheck (2011 CrossRef Workshops)

Questions: DOI (CrossRef) in China

For Chinese-edition journals, their registered items are English information. However, the search is based on Chinese (CNKI, WanFang, VIP), so it is difficult to establish a cross-refer via DOI.

Is it useful for Chinese journals to registered DOI (CrossRef)? Is it possible for CeossRef to establish links with Chinese articles? Many China’s journals cooperate with overseas publishers, a

nd register DOI as one of the publishers’ journals. If the cooperator changed, how multiple DOIs process?

Page 20: China: Journal Publishing, DOI and CrossCheck (2011 CrossRef Workshops)

Questions: Cross Check

Plagiarism

Translation between Chinese and English.

Redundant (or duplicate) publication

The same paper published in English & Chinese;

Journal papers revised from PhD (or MS) thesis;

Journal papers revised from online articles.
