the most social and economic holiday in china.

• Leader Mao Zedong(1893-1976) forbade celebrating the traditional Chinese new year and followed the Gregorian calendar in its dealings with the west.

• By the end of the 20th century Chinese leaders were more willing to accept the Chinese traditions.

• Family gather around the television to watch Spring Festival Gala: an annual variety show featuring trational and contemporary singers, dancers and magic.

• Chunlian: simply long, narrow red strips of paper or diamond-shaped paper printed with black or gold Chinese characters . You hang these in the doorway of your home.

printed on them.
