Color Characteristics
Color has 3 distinct characteristics.
Hue- name given to a color.
Value- refers to lightness or darkness of a color.
Intensity- brightness or dullness of a color.

Color Wheel
Is a tool that shows the relationship between colors.
Primary cannot be created from other colors. ex. Yellow, Blue, and Red.
Secondary colors are equal amounts of two primary colors.

Color Schemes
Three common color schemes are monochromatic, analogous, and complementary.
Monochromatic are shades and tints of one colors.
Analogous are colors next to each other on the color wheel.
Complementary are combining colors directly across from each other on the color wheel.

Warm and Cool Colors
Warm colors are those colors related to red, orange, and yellow.
Cool colors are those colors related to blue, green, and violet.

Line
Line is a design element that gives direction to a design.
Structural lines are seams. They are created as the various pieces of the garment are sewn together.
Decorative lines are those added to the fabric or garment to make it visually appealing.

TextureRough or smooth, shiny or dull, crisp or soft, bulky or silky.
Garments made from soft and silky fabrics slenderize a figure.
Some fabrics are crisp and stiff. They are great for making the body appear larger.
Fabrics with dull texture absorbs light and have a slenderizing effect.

FormThe shape of an object is its form.
Clothes that produce a full form may make you appear larger and heavier.
A tubular form may make you appear taller.
The bell-shaped form, which flatters most people, is created by flared designs.
