Chris Phillips!Photographer/Visual Anthropologist!!Chris Phillips, born in 1988, started taking pictures as a child, after winning a monkey-shaped camera for Christmas. Since then, photography has been an essential part of his life. After attending an Anthropology course in the University of Brasilia, he developed a taste for the different, seeking in the unusual a way of shaking the cultural patters that most people take for granted and swallow without questioning. His challenge as a photographer is similar to his as an anthropologist: seeing the world that we live with an unexpected lens.!!“Berlin is a city of extremes. And all who dare to enter in a relationship with this hedonist living entity will find themselves in a constant love-and-hate mood. The starting point of the exhibition “Berlin Tales” is a reflexive statement of the artist's own experience:!!Before I moved to Berlin, I read in a book some very good advice: If you see a small light, follow it. Will it lead you to a swamp? You will get out of it. But if you don't follow it, the thought that this could have been your star will haunt you for the rest of your life. So I did it. I follow the light... and I moved to Berlin. It took me to a very dirty swamp full of trolls. I searched in the same book for a different advice. It didn't tell me what to do in case I decided to stay in the swamp. I hate the fact that I love it. And that I still think that my star is here, hidden somewhere under all this mud.”!!Berlin Tales is a collection of visual narratives inspired by autobiographical events and encounters with some beautiful creatures of the underground scene. The collaborative portraits appear as a dialogue between the artist and the represented subject.!!
