To those of you who can, do check your emails and check our website and Facebook pages for Church of England updates. We are working at ways of keeping everyone informed and up to date.

Notices

Website update: Have you seen our new look website? The PCC have agreed that we move our domain to a new host and platform, whilst our old provider provided a good website package, our new provider, ChurchEdit, links into our iKnow church admistation system, gives us a lot more functions, is more user friendly and best of all, is more cost effective that our old provider. When you have a moment, go take a look, you can even give your weekly collection on our secure giving page. Why not take a look, go to http://christchurchsb.org.uk we have already had some good comments made, and if you want to try out one of the forms, please feel free to do so.

APCM Update: Due to the current situation our Annual Parochial Church Meeting scheduled for Sunday 17th May is postponed. Bishop Nick has now signed an Instrument to extend the period of office of current churchwardens or PCC

members until later in the year (31st October 2020). In the meantime, it would be good for us to continue with all our preparations so that we are good to go once the church re-opens.

• Electoral Roll - The church electoral roll is ‘official/administrative’ membership of Christ Church Sowerby Bridge. It gives a person the right to attend and vote at the Church Annual Parochial Church meeting. If you come to Christ Church regularly and are not on the Electoral Roll, please consider signing up. Contact Peter Henry for details or to confirm whether you are currently on the roll or not.

• APCM Reports. Will all groups associated/affiliated to Christ Church please send your reports for the period 1st January 2019 to 31st December 2019. Please do not include any information/activities for 2020. If you can email to [email protected] it would be greatly appreciated or mail a paper copy to the Vicarage if you are able. If we could have these in by the end of May that would be great.

As a reminder, can we please ask everyone, who is able to complete the

survey which we have sent, so this can help the PCC where our focus needs to be, Ideally if you are able to do this online, that would be great.

Just over 40 days ago we started our #LIVE LENT challenge. I hope you enjoyed the booklet using well known biblical stories of creation and its creatures and relating them to our relationship with our world today. It gave me new insights into God’s love for his creation and how we should be stewards of it. As we come to the end of the booklet “Caring for God’s Creation” there is a section on “going further” both as individuals and as a church and we’d like to ask everyone a few questions on what you might have done, and what you might want to do more of in the future. For those with access to I-Know you’ll find an e-mail coming soon with a letter and a link to answer the questions “online”. For those who can’t use I-know there will be plenty of time when things go back to normal to complete a paper copy and add your thoughts to what will be an ongoing project.” Daily reflection and readings Every Morning, Revd Angela has been giving a daily reflection, which she has posted onto the WhatsApp Church prayer and support group. Thanks to Adam Lamb, he has been able to convert the daily readings so that you can listen to them via the iKnow church app. Unfortunately, there is no way to provide this via the actual iknow church website. Adam has been able to create a secure account via itunes and android music, if anyone is still having issues listening to them, please do let me know. Thanks Peter

Monthly Giving Due to the current situation we are not making our monthly donation. Give as you Live: Are you currently doing your shopping online? If so, why not head to Give as you live first, at no extra cost to you the church gains a donation. Since we joined give as you live, we have raised an extra £487, we would never have had, see page 9 for more details, or our giving page on the website.

Christians Together in Sowerby Bridge. Each Sunday the clergy from the town will be putting a short reflective video on their Facebook page, just search for Christians Together

A prayer for all those affected by coronavirus

Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy. Sustain and support the anxious,

be with those who care for the sick, and lift up all who are brought low;

that we may find comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from

your love in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen.

Care for those you are praying for, pray for those you are caring for

During these difficult and trying times, we believe that now more than ever, presents an incredible opportunity for the Church worldwide, to unite in prayer so that our family, friends and neighbours will come to know the love and peace of Jesus Christ for themselves. One of our Key themes for Thy Kingdom Come is prayer and care. As we are praying for those we love to come to know the hope and love of Christ we also are encouraging all to see how they can show God’s love towards them. By caring for them. Here are 5 ideas on how we can care and love those

we know, even when we are socially distanced:

1. Keep up contact. Make a phone call, send an email, letter or card saying that you are praying for them at this time. 2. Keep an eye out for the anniversaries of life events. Make that phone call to let people know you care. 3. Send a small gift or book purchased on line, maybe insert life words etc. 4. Serve where you can in delivering groceries or medications. 5. Make sure the people you pray for know how much you value them by whatever means you can find.

Daily Hope phone line Daily Hope offers music, prayers and reflections as well as full worship services from the Church of England at the end of a telephone line. A Church of England initiative in partnership with CONNECTIONS at Holy Trinity Claygate, and Faith in Later Life

Take some time to reflect

Jesus, in his final hours on earth prayed for his followers in his time and also for all who would follow in the future. He entrusted us into God's hands that we might all be "In it together" just as God and Jesus were throughout his life on earth. The unity of God's family was important to Jesus. He wanted us to not be alone in traveling the Way. The community in Acts are doing the work of Christ "to the ends of the earth" and in 1 Peter the suffering is shared with "brothers and sisters in all the world." Wherever we are it is God who empowers and strengthens us. How, when, where in your congregation do people pray for each other? Is the prayer life of your church empowering, is it making a difference in your community? Prayer: May we too long for, and pray for, and work for unity with all God's children - that we may know we are not alone! Amen
