CMI Education Policy StatementWe, the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, after the example of our

founder Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, consider education as theintegral formation of the human person for the fulfillment of his/her individual and social responsibilities.

Our educational endeavours aim at forming leaders who areintellectually competent, spiritually mature, morally upright, psychologically integrated, physically healthy and sociallyacceptable, who will champion the cause of justice, love, truth andpeace, and who are ever open to further growth.

The secret of the success of our educational institutions is acommunity of teachers who are committed to their vocation, professionally competent, morally upright, just and humane indealings, culturally sensitive and who grow in the true vision ofeducation.

We aspire towards creating a just and humane society wheredignity of the human person is respected, where unjust socialstructures are challenged, where our cultural heritage of ahimsa, religious harmony and national unity are upheld, and where thepoor and the marginalized are specially taken care of.

We have to reach out to the families, primarily of the students, toassist them in their needs, to share in their joys and sorrows, and tohelp them experience love and freedom so that the students realizethat our educational institutions are an extension of their homes.

Our institutions are open to all students irrespective of casteand creed; they are accepted and cherished as they are and arehelped to grow in their cultural, social and religious traditions. Asthey are privileged to be in our institutions, they will also have theright to get acquainted with the person of Jesus Christ and hisGospel. Being institutions established and administered by andfor a minority community based on religion, they will givepreference to Christians in admissions and appointments and havea special concern for the faith formation of the Christian youth.

Our institutions are also open to society at large by making theirresources available for the ongoing education and growth.

For the realization of this CMI goal of education, we invitestudents, parents and teachers to share this vision and to cooperatewith us wholeheartedly.

Children, you are God’s gift in the hands of your parents.

LEAD, KINDLY LIGHT

Lead, kindly Light, amid th’ encircling gloom,Lead Thou me on!

The night is dark and I am far from home,Lead Thou me on.

Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to seeThe distant scene: one step enough for me.

So long Thy power hath blessed me, sure it stillWill lead me on.

O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, tillThe night is gone;

And with the morn those angel faces smile,Which I have loved long since, and lost a while.

Go to school regularly and recall to mind what is taught during the week.

PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

Make me a channel of your peace,Where there is hatred, let me bring your love,Where there is injury, your pardon, LordAnd where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

Ch. Oh Master, grant that I may never seekSo much to be consoled as to console,To be understood as to understand,To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace,Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope,‘Where there is darkness, Lord, your shining light,And where there’s sadness, ever joy.

Make me a channel of your peace,It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,In giving to all men that we receive,And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
