Two Masses Each Weekday in Lent!!

During Lent we have the custom of offering two daily Masses each Lenten weekday (Monday through Friday). We will contin-ue to offer the 7:00 am, of course. In addition, we offer Mass at 5:30 pm each weekday evening. Our Saturday morning Masses, at 8:00 am, continue throughout the year. We hope you’ll be able to join us for daily Mass.!

Lenten Fast and Abstinence Regulations !for the Diocese of Worcester!

!

Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics four-teen (14) years of age and older on Ash Wednesday, Good Fri-day and all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting is to be observed by all Catholics who are eighteen (18) years of age but not yet fiftynine (59) years of age on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those who are bound to fast may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. Catholics should not lightly excuse themselves from these prescribed Lenten penitential practices.!

“COME HOME TO GOD’S MERCY”!Tuesday Confessions During Lent!

!

As in the previous six years we will offer the opportunity for all to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance; confes-sions) on Lenten Tuesdays between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm. This practice was initiated at Bishop McManus’ request some years ago. He named it, “Come Home to God’s Mercy.” Lent is a won-derful time to receive God’s mercy through this extraordinary Sacrament. The remaining dates for these confessions will be Tuesdays ~ February 27, and March 6, 13, 20 and 27. In addi-tion, extra times for confessions will be held during the early part of Holy Week, on Monday, March 26, and Wednesday, March 28, from 7:008:00 pm. Of course, confessions are also offered each Saturday afternoon from 2:453:45 pm or at a spe-cial time requested by anyone.!

!A Letter from Bishop McManus!!

!My dear brothers and sisters in the Lord,!!

!

The holy season of Lent is a privileged time of grace and recon-ciliation in the Church. During this time, we are invited to pre-pare ourselves for the celebration of the great paschal feast of Easter and the awesome hope of eternal salvation offered to us in the raising of Jesus Christ from the dead.!!

The Church invites us all to prepare ourselves by attuning our minds and hearts more closely to the Gospel of Christ which calls us to conversion and transformation. As always, by devot-ing more time to personal and communal prayer we can estab-lish an everdeepening communion with God who calls us to become his children in name and in fact. Through the giving of alms, assistance to those in need, we detach ourselves from all in the world that can stand in our path, thus lessening our depend-ence on the things of this world and more intensely on the Reign of God. Fasting also assists us in emptying ourselves bodily, allowing that space for Christ to fill not with the food that per-ishes, but rather with the food that endures unto eternal life.!!

In recent years I have asked each parish to embrace and cele-brate the pastoral practice of offering the Sacrament of Penance each Tuesday evening during the season of Lent. This program entitled “Come Home to God’s Mercy” has borne great fruit in allowing this great sacrament of healing and mercy to be cele-brated conveniently in every parish during the season of Lent.!!

In addition to the “Come Home to God’s Mercy” program, Pope Francis has requested that another pastoral initiative “24 Hours for the Lord” be celebrated in every diocese during the season of Lent this year. This initiative will offer the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation in conjunction with Eucharistic Adoration for a 24hour period in four parishes in our diocese on March 910. Christ the King Parish is one of them.!!

Eucharistic Adoration and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will begin following the 7:00 am Mass on Friday, March 9. It will conclude with the 8:00 am Mass on Saturday, March 10. Area priests will be available during this period to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.!!

You are cordially invited to avail yourself of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and/or Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament dur-ing this time. It is my prayerful hope that this time set aside for prayerful adoration along with the opportunity for Reconcilia-tion will be what Pope Francis has termed a “moment of grace for the entire Church community.”!!

Sincerely yours in Christ,!Most Rev. Robert J. McManus, STD!

Bishop of Worcester!

“Loving God by Serving Others”!Partners in Charity 2018!

!As previously announced, this weekend, March 3 & 4, we are conducting the inpew collection for the Annual Partners in Charity Appeal. All parishioners will be asked to make either a cash gift or pledged gift for the year (over a tenmonth pledging period). Monsignor Sullivan will speak at all the Masses today on the importance of each of us giving to this important appeal which funds those vital 28 diocesan ministries, charities and pas-toral agencies essential to the works of our Diocese. He will lead us in the inpew appeal. We hope that you are prepared to make a gift at this time. It is our hope to be able to receive your gift in church today if you are prepared to do so.!

National & Local Search for Our Next!Director of Liturgical Music!

!

During this past week our parish began a search for our next Director of Liturgical Music. We are communicating the job description and our expectations through The Catholic Free Press and on national and local websites affiliated with Catholic pastoral musicians and the American Guild of Organists. Mon-signor Sullivan is overseeing the committee and its members include ten others, all representatives of our three choirs. They are Virginia Ryan, Richard Freije, Melissa Boyle, Bonnie McCrea, Paul Foley, Helen Foley, David Ofcarcik, Elise Jacques, Kerri Melley and Neal Melley. In this interim period, we have been very grateful for the musical leadership of Mr. Peter Brockman and for the cooperation of choir members in going forward following the untimely death of Dennis Ferrante. We hope to have a new Director in place this spring and we will keep the parish posted on developments.!

Would You Like to Join Our Parish?!!

Please contact Monsignor Sullivan at 5087545361. Or, you can email him at [email protected] and he will respond. !

Enrich your Lent by Volunteering!!

We often challenge ourselves during Lent. How can you make a difference in this world and in your own life? Would you consid-er saying “Yes” to Jesus by spending some very special time with hospice patients? Can you spare one or two hours a week volunteering with patients at the end of life? Notre Dame Hos-pice is looking for kind, compassionate people. Our volunteers give the precious gift of their time to our hospice patients. They provide companionship in so many ways: sharing stories and experiences, reading, praying or just sitting quietly holding their hand. We also find that pet therapy brings a lot of joy to our pa-tients, if you happen to have a dog. If you feel called to assist us in this important mission of volunteering, please contact, Debbie Karalus, Hospice Volunteer Coordinator at ND Hospice 5088525505 or email at [email protected]. What a great way to be Christ to others! !

Letter from the Pastor of Les Anglais!!

Dear Parishioners,!!

A word to say that we are sincerely touched by your kindness, your contribution and your generosity towards Notre Dame de Lourdes School! Thank you so much for this amount of money that we receive each month, and that is used to feed the students who are really in need and to pay the teachers. Thanks to you we have been able to offer our children what they need to spend a pleasant day at the school. It is with people like you that we have been able to accompany students to allow them to live a “human life” unlike before.!!

We thank you with all our heart and will not fail to communi-cate the activities of each month within the school. On behalf of the Directors, the faculty, the parents and the students in particu-lar, I thank you again for your financial support and ask you to believe in the assurance of the best feelings. We continue to pray for all those who have contributed to support this school. May God keep you and bless you.!!

Please come and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this time. A priest will be here through-out this time period.
