Aside from making this prayer and visit, one also needs to meet the usual conditions for a plenary indulgence, namely: 1. Going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, 2. Receiving Holy Communion, 3. Praying for the intentions of the Holy Father, and 4. Being free from all attachment to sin, even venial sin. Unlike other indulgences which one can attain either for one’s self or for souls in Purgatory, this indulgence is applicable only to souls in Purgatory. The fourth condition for attaining a plenary indulgence, freedom from attachment to sin, is often quite challenging. Nevertheless, I would encourage you to try. Even if one does not meet all the conditions for a plenary indulgence one would still attain a partial indulgence just for trying. A plenary indulgence, you will recall, is a total remission of the temporal punishment for sin, i.e. a soul gets out of Purgatory. A partial indulgence, on the other hand, is a partial remission of the temporal punishment for sin, i.e. a soul’s “time” in Purgatory is shortened, and that is still something. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Matthew Crane

PLENARY INDULGENCE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DIED

Holy Mother Church grants a plenary indulgence to the Christian faithful who devoutly visit a cemetery on November 1 through November 8, and pray, even silently, for the dead. Dear Christ the King Parishioners: I have made the decision to resign my position as principal at the end of November. I did not make this decision lightly, and I believe this can be a great opportunity for St. Mary’s and Christ the King to work together to find a principal who will bring new ideas to these great schools. I will do eve-rything possible to make this transition as smooth as possible. It has truly been an honor to lead our schools and get to know such wonderful staff, students, parents and parishioners. Christ the King School will always hold a special place in my heart—from student to parent to principal here—I have been blessed! God Bless You, Brenda Gugglberger
