Dear Americans, I put out my flag on Memorial Day, 4th of July, Veterans Day, etc. This year as I was getting out my flag, I was thinking about all that our country has been through in the past many years. I thought, “I’m going to leave this out all year.” Let’s reunite, be nice and show each other that we still love and care for America and for each other. If you don’t already have one, please consider getting a flag and putting it up - (the sales will help the economy!) and leave it there all year! Let’s send a message to each other that we are still Americans and we care for each other and love our nation through good times and bad! Below is an explanation of the flag folding ceremony according to the Air Force Script #4. It is quite moving. The flag folding ceremony represents the same religious principles on which our country was originally founded. The portion of the flag denoting honor is the canton of blue containing the stars representing the states our veterans served in uniform. The canton field of blue dresses from left to right and is inverted when draped as a pall on a casket of a veteran who has served our country in uniform.

In the Armed Forces of the United States, at the ceremony of retreat the flag is lowered, folded in a triangle fold and kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nation's honored dead. The next morning it is brought out and, at the ceremony of reveille, run aloft as a symbol of our belief in the resurrection of the body.

(Wait for the Honor Guard or Flag Detail to unravel and fold the flag into a quarter fold--resume reading when Honor Guard is standing ready.)

1) The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

2) The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.

3) The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain a peace throughout the world.

4) The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidance.

5) The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our country, in dealing with other coun-tries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong."

6) The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United

States of America , and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

7) The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

8) The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered in to the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on mother's day.

9) The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded.

10) The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

11) The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

12) The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.

When the flag is completely folded, the stars are upper-most, reminding us of our national motto, "In God we Trust."

(Wait for the Honor Guard or Flag Detail to inspect the flag--after the inspection, resume reading.)

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and the sailors and marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, pre-serving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.“ http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/more/folds.htm

M y wife has a very dear friend whose young son began

first grade a few years ago. As she shared with us about that first day, it caused me to remember the day I left for first grade myself. My mother made sure that I was all dressed and ready to go. Just before I left for the bus, she gave

me my final list of important things to remember:

Sit up straight in your chair

Be polite to your teacher and say, ”Yes, ma’am”

Don’t play too much in the grass because you have on new pants

Don’t forget your milk money when you go to lunch

Play nice with all of your new school mates At the tender age of six, this was a lot to remember! My head was already swirling with nervous anticipation of the upcoming adventure of first grade. How could I remember everything on my mom’s list? As I arrived at Baylake Pines Elementary School, I was greeted with lots of other six year olds who had the same dazed and confused look on their faces. A few of them had strings tied to their fingers or around parts of their clothing. When I asked them what the string was for, they said, “My mom didn’t want me to forget.” I want to figuratively tie a string around all of our fingers as it relates to being blessed. When we are blessed, we need to remember to use our position and prosperity for His pur-pose. Too often, we fail to realize that the purpose of our position and prosperity that often comes from our business is to benefit others. My specific belief and practice is that it should not only benefit others, but it should also help to further God’s Kingdom and purposes here on this earth. My wife, Holly, and I own Hill & Hill Financial, LLC, a full service wealth management firm based in Woodstock. We are privileged to help families in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida with their retirement planning. At the end of each month, we look at all of the gross fees and commissions that have been paid into our firm, and we give a minimum of 10% to various organizations. We look at investing in God’s Kingdom similar to how we invest in the business world. We invest in small, medium, and large companies. We invest in domestic and international companies. We may invest in consumer goods or technol-ogy companies. Similarly, when it comes to God’s work, we “invest” in local, regional, national, and international organizations. We work to help organizations in our neighborhood, like Papas Pantry, where people may need food and help with employment issues. We may also serve and support

missionaries around the world who are spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ and helping Christians grow into strong disciples for His glory. There have been many times when the challenges of owning a business would have made it very easy for us to tell God that we would “catch Him later.” Instead we have seen God’s faithful Hand at work in our business week after week as we have worked to be faithful stewards of all that He has entrusted to us. As I have had the opportunity to travel the United States as well as many countries around the world, I have shared these thoughts with other business leaders. At times, I have been told, “That is fine for your business, Morgan, but you don’t understand my issues.” My only response is based on one simple belief – our business belongs to God… It is 100% His and all that we do and make is for His glory and purpose. You may have heard this story from the days of the Crusades. There were many knights who came to God by faith. Those who chose to be baptized willingly went under the water in obedience. But according to historians, there were some knights who went completely under the water, but thrust their sword high above their head and shout, “God may have my soul, but not my sword!” Do you see how this might relate to us as business leaders today? Instead of a sword, we thrust our wallets high above our heads and say, ”God may have my soul, but not my money or my business.” Over the years, when it comes to God’s work, I continue to hear stories of how God is whispering into the hearts of His followers to start organizations to further His Kingdom. Yet, I also hear stories of how these folks struggle to get the funding needed for His work. My prayer is that the business and the ministry communities would truly get together in partnership so the natural and spiritual needs of the masses will be met as a result of us all being good stewards of His resources. I challenge you today to decide to trust God in your giving and partner with organizations that are truly doing His work… like Papa’s Pantry! Have A Heart… For the Hungry

Dear Papa’s Pantry, About a year ago I became unemployed. After exhausting all of my savings, about 2 weeks ago, I came to Papa’s Pantry for food in order to feed my family. I remember feeling welcomed and embraced despite my despair. Sandi and Robin were so inviting and made me feel that my life would get better, despite what the situation appeared to be. Unexpectedly that same week, I became homeless, albeit temporarily. It was one of the most devastating events in my life. Living in a Wal-Mart parking lot for a few days while waiting for another apartment was humiliating and embarrassing. The look on my face probably told my story to any who looked at me with avoidance and discomfort. Had I not visited Papa’s Pantry, I would have only been able to imagine living life in the most dire way. But remembering that I had received such support and encouragement from the people there, I continued to believe that I could overcome my present situation. Through Robin’s and Sandi’s intervening, I was introduced to Papa’s “Master’s Training Center” which opened my perspective to new ideas and to tailoring my job search more effectively. I have since begun moving into my new place and anticipate making my mark on life as previously planned. I have always believed that volunteering is impor-tant and necessary, but I had never considered those

who volunteered as making a permanent impact on the lives of others. That is what has happened here, for me. The couple who first helped me with groceries allowed me to choose what I could eat and take home to my family. I had not expected this! Everyone made me feel as though I was more than just a “revolving door” number. I am not saying that any service that helps you move your life forward is not appre-ciated, it most certainly is! But what Papa’s Pantry has allowed me to do is to retain a certain amount of dignity. They helped me make better decisions towards improving my life through a variety of classes. With Maureen’s “Eating Right With Every Bite” class and being able to select my own food, my family and I can eat properly which helps us to remain strong physically, while enforcing our focus mentally. Papa’s also helped to pro-vide what I should wear in my job search. I believe that Papa’s Pantry does more than provide food to struggling families. It also instills hope, encourage-ment and a positive outlook for the future. Such a dedica-tion in propelling your goals through life skills and its focus on kindness has assisted me in truly going forward. Because of Papa’s Pantry I have decided to begin volun-teering again, but now with a new perspective on its purpose. If we allow ourselves to believe in the goodness of people, life has hope. I have been encouraged to know that after life’s storms, stability does and will come. Very truly yours, Bridgette B.

Summer is here and school is out! Time to enjoy summer activities with your families. Picnics are a favorite for summer dining; my family loves outdoor meals. Don’t heat up the kitchen. Serve cool and crisp fresh foods that awaken the taste buds and make sum-mer days more delicious! Prepare meals ahead and take time to savor summer!

This recipe is for a light and tasty chicken salad with fruit as an addition. At about 150 calories per serving, it is a real treat! You can change the fruits to peaches, mandarins, strawberries, blue-berries, or any other seasonal favorite. If curry isn’t your favorite, try it with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and fresh herbs like thyme or oregano. Chicken Salad with Curry and Summer Fruit (serves 8) - 3 skinless chicken breasts, cooked and chopped, chilled - ½ c. celery diced - 4 green onions, sliced - 1 c. seasonal diced fruit (peaches, berries)

½ c. halved grapes, any color or mixed

- ½ c. chopped toasted nuts (walnuts,

almonds, pecans, pistachios, sunflower) - 1/8 t. pepper, 1/8 t. salt - 2 t. curry powder - 2/3 c. light or non fat mayonnaise - 1/3 c. plain non fat yogurt, drained well Mix all ingredients. Chill and serve. Delicious with pita bread, lettuce wrap, or crisp crackers.

Try this for a great refreshing summer lemonade ! Watermelon Lemonade (12 servings) - 1 c. water - 4 c. cubed watermelon (red part

only, no seeds or rind) - ½ c. white sugar (or substitute sweetener)

- 3 c. water - ½ c. lemon juice, freshly squeezed - 6 c. ice cubes Place watermelon and 1 c. water in blender. Puree until smooth. Cover and refrigerate. Dissolve sugar in 3 c. water. Add lemon juice. Divide ice into 12 glasses. Top with ¼ c. watermelon puree. Pour lemonade over watermelon and ice. Stir gently. Gar-nish with a lemon wedge or mint leaves for a real treat!

In a Word - Perform by Tim Grady

I f you have been following this series, you will discover that I

have been laying out a path for pursuing one’s purpose in life. By now, it is hoped that you have decided on your purpose and have built a plan for it. Now comes the

hard part – you must execute the plan. You will need to perform the tasks and activities necessary to breathe life into your purpose. As you perform the actual tasks and activities, every manner of obstacle may suddenly appear on your path. If your purpose has been revealed to you by God, instilled in your heart by the Holy Spirit, then guess who is throwing up all the road blocks? Satan does not want you to do anything divine; he wants you to remain isolated and alone where he can inject you with fear. He wants you to doubt your pur-pose, to question your quest, and to abandon hope and love. This is why God made us in His image, because in doing so, He instilled in us His essence of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Self-control may be the most important. Self-control allows us to face obstacles and think our way through them, rather than lose control and react to them – often harshly with anger, frustration, fits of rage, dissention, envy, hatred, jealousy, discord, and selfish ambition. If your purpose is pure of heart and well planned, then you will transform the roadblocks into opportunities refined by the fires of evil. Isn’t that curious? In many cases, it takes great heat to refine impurities out of the end result, just as metal is purified and strengthened by fire. You may be consumed by it, or use it as a tool. This ought to really tick off Satan! You are using his tool against him by controlling yourself and using that energy to purify your purpose, and to strengthen it. In fact, your plan will have flaws in it. There will be unan-ticipated consequences to some of your actions or decisions. Some of your efforts and activities will fail, which is wonder-ful! No one has ever learned much from unchallenged success. And, your purpose, plan and how you perform may take you to wonderful, unexpected places. You will meet people who help you and others who would be a hindrance, but all of them are part of God’s plan for your purpose. As you perform and take a few whacks, you must rise up through persistence and faith in your plan and purpose. You must persevere. Anyone can quit, particularly when they see failure as an end result rather than as a lesson. When Thomas Edison was challenged that he had failed over 2,000 times to make a light bulb, he responded that he, in fact, had found over 2,000 ways a light bulb wouldn’t work. By process of creation and elimination, he eventually invented a working incandescent light bulb. This was expressed by

Napoleon Hill when he wrote, “What the mind of man can conceive and truly believe, it can achieve.” As you perform your tasks and activities, remember that success is a journey, not a destination. People often look at the end result and believe it was so easy to get there. However, if you examine any successful person’s life, you will discover that they may have done many things both re-lated and unrelated to their eventual destination. They hit all kinds of roadblocks along the way. They toiled and tilled, when neither seemed very productive. This brings me back to a point I made in an earlier article; I said that you would have to decide and then decide again, and again, and again. That is because your commitment will be challenged by every manner of thing, some well-meaning and some intent upon ruining your efforts. Even some of your closest friends or family members may try to discourage you so “you won’t be hurt” when you fail. As your purpose comes together, or is revealed to you as you proceed with Plan A, persevere. Plan B may be required, or even Plan C. As Stephen Covey points out in his book, The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People, start with the end in mind. Keep your vision on your vision. Learn to believe in yourself. Accept that, because you were made in God’s image, instilled with the Holy Spirit, that you have unlimited resources inside you. When you feel spent and empty, reach into that bottomless well of faith. Give your purpose to God and ask Him to watch over you and guide you as you perform the necessary tasks and activities. He will invigorate the Holy Spirit inside you. Get enough rest and maintain a healthy diet because you are operating a living machine. It is energized by both earthly sustenance and the power of the Holy Spirit. However, if you treat the machine badly, it will malfunction, and you’ll be spending your time fixing it instead of using it. So perform with joy, and be glad that you can, for He has blessed you with gifts and skills that he expects you to use, and will bless your efforts in ways you cannot even imagine. Whose Shoes Are You Trying to Fill? Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads and Granddads!

Do you remember when your toddler sons and daughters stepped into your very large shoes and attempted to walk across the room, all the while pretending to be you? Do you remember being the toddler? Perhaps you are not yet a father and you remember standing next to Dad looking up wondering how he got so wise. Whatever your memories, be sure to reach out to say thank you to the men in your life who influenced your good character. Remember to look down to up and coming youngsters to sow worthy seeds into them! God, our Father honors men who love as He loves! He is crazy about us!
