WHAT IS THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH?
The Roman catholic church is the oldest institution in the world. Roman Catholicism is one of the oldest denomination in the world it can be traced back to almost 2000 years.
Catholics believe that the Pope ,based in Rome, is the descendent to Saint Peter whom Jesus Christ appointed as the first head of His church. The word Pope comes from the Latin for 'father' also the pope is the Bishop of Rome.

STATUE OF MARY The statue of Mary is used as an aid to prayer.
Christians do not worship to Mary, she is there as a focus and a person to pray through.
Statues of other people, such as Saints can sometimes be found.
Used to lighting as you say a prayer Often lit underneath an image/statue of Jesus, Mary or other Saints
