Video AnalysisChristina Aguilera – Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is
You)
Generic Codes and Conventions Genre: Pop
The video follows lots of generic pop codes and conventions. The song is very upbeat and does not have much lyrics. The video includes shots of dancing as well as Christina Aguilera standing still showcasing her vocal ability
The song reached Number 1 in many countries and was a hit all over the world. The video does not follow any kind of narrative and is solely a performance video.
Form of Music VideoThe video is performance based with lots of different shots of Christina Aguilera and backup dancers dancing. You can tell it has no narrative as we are always seeing her lip sync and the set hardly ever changes drastically throughout the entire music video.
CinematographyAlmost every scene in the video is focused entirely on the main artist. At the beginning of the video we see a room with just Christina Aguilera and the camera cuts between two different scenes with lots of close up shots of her body panning onto her face.
In shots with dancers she is always facing the camera with the backup dancers not being as memorable and not being focused on by the camera
Relationship between sound and image
At the beginning of the video we see her talking on the phone to somebody about a party which automatically links the conversation to the song lyrics: All I want is you, come over here babyAll I want is you, you know you make me go crazyAll I want is you, now baby don't be shyYou better cross the lineI'm gonna love you right'Cause all I want is you
In the second verse Christina Aguilera begins singing about her sexuality: I'm not just talkingAbout your sexuality (your sexuality)But I can't help myselfWhen you put your hands on meOoh oh, oohand this is mirrored in the video
Misé-en-sceneThroughout the video you never really see anything that relates to reality, everything is very futuristic e.g. there are no shots of outside, there is no specific known location where the video was filmed.
The background that is used shows she’s not in a real place and just looks like it’s a huge curtain.
Institutions and audienceThe song was released back in 2004 by BMG records, the same record company as the Black Eyed Peas and Kylie Minogue. The audience for the video is definitely young teens aged 10-19 as Christina Aguilera was very popular among that age group and she also preformed the song live at Disney’s Summer Jam
