Invitation to Building Systems Engineering Technology PASS DAY events, October 24, 2018 Teachers, tell your students that on PASS Day, the Building Systems Engineering Technology Program is holding the Vanier/ASHRAE Building

Engineering career show in Jake’s mall for both BSET students, and students of other programs who might be interested in BSET or studying

Building Engineering in the future.

This career show could be of interest to some explorations and science students, and even some Continuing Education students. As well, any

high school students who are free that day are welcome to come and explore the possibilities of studying in the BSET program at Vanier.

Four companies will be giving presentations on career possibilities in the industry and inside the companies themselves. There are some very

big names, including Honeywell, Carrier, Pageau Morel, Bouthillette Parizeau, Nortek, and Baulne, among others, and some smaller names

like Big Ass Fans, who are always up for a show (seriously). Field trips will be given to the Bibliothèque du Boisé, and hosted by an engineer

from the Ville de Montréal who is responsible for the operation of the building.

Jake’s Coop will be open for purchase of coffee and sandwiches.

Email me for more info, or to let me know if you have any staff or students interested in attending. I would really like Jakes to be as full as

possible and since we only have about 60 active students in BSET I am looking for participation from all possible departments. I want to make

it worth it for those companies who took the time to send a delegation to Vanier, and need your help to fill up the event.

Please let your students know about this very interesting event. Presentations begin at 10 am and activities run to 12:30. See the poster below

for more details.

PSI NEWS

Social Annotation Webinar Active reading does not need to be a solitary activity. In fact, thanks to new technologies, it can be a collaborative process. In fact, research shows that when students engage in social annotation (commenting on discourses in a collaborative, digital environment) their understanding of and engagement with the discourse deepens. In this webinar, teachers will be introduced to, and try their hand at using, three free, online platforms that allow students to highlight, comment on, and discuss text and video individually or in groups. They will also explore ways to use these platforms to support active reading, student engagement, and collaborative learning. Join us online (whether from home or on-campus)! Time: Friday October 26th, 2018 Where: Microsoft Teams (in the Online Curation and Annotation team) Registration: Email Patti Kingsmill to join the webinar Technical specifications: You will need to access the webinar from a desktop or laptop using the desktop version of Microsoft Teams.
