  • 3. The Onassis suite is just aft of this and features its original fireplace and all of its originalBaccarat light fixtures. There is a large sitting room, large TV and a separate bedroom. Theattached master bath is complete with twin sinks. 4. Complete with original onyx pillars, bronze handrails and floor mosaic, the spiral staircaseservices the three major decks. 5. The deck below the Onassis cabin/bridge is where the main living areas of this yacht arelocated. All the way forward is the Maria Callas lounge with a beautiful piano, raised "stage"forward, and considerable seating. The entry area to this lounge is another seating area, betterknown as the Library. 6. On this same deck, and just aft of the Maria Callas lounge is the games room area. Thisincludes the games room, a full gym, a separate massage area and another separate hairdressing salon. 7. Aft of this area, and outside, is the great outdoor bar, alfresco dining area and the raisedsunning area with a Jacuzzi. 8. Going down to the next level forward are 10 guest suites and aft of these is the massivedining room with tables to accommodate all guests on board. The piano opposite provides liveentertainment during dinner. 9. The most historic area on board is just aft of the dining room where guests congregate afterdinner for a coffee/brandy or port. This is Ari's bar with barstools covered with the originalforeskins of sperm whales and bar handles made of whale fangs engraved with scenes fromthe Odyssey. This entire bar is original. 10. Just aft of Ari's bar is the lapis lounge with a fireplace made of lapis lazuli across themantle and in the vertical pillars. 11. Outside is the bronze bordered swimming pool that has been beautifully restored to itsfull glory with the original Minoan mosaic floor. This floor raises up from the pool bottom tobecome a flush dance floor when the sun goes down. Aft of this area is another great seating area that is more intimate for 2 - 10 people forlunch or dinner under the sun or stars. A canvas shade provides protection from the elements. Other areas of interest aboard are the many crew service locations and the massive galley. With the support of refrigeration, freezer space and a multitude of commercial grade appliances, the galley creates meals commensurate with the most revered land based hotels and restaurants. The machinery spaces are amply supported by a very large control room and electrical distributionpanels.

    Remarks

Throughout the history of yachting, there has really been only one yacht that has truly becomea legend. Aristotle Onassis' yacht, CHRISTINA O, has really achieved this singular distinction. Aristotle spent $4.0 million in 1954 equivalent to $34.0 million today on CHRISTINA O. In 2001, CHRISTINA O became, after the installation of over 560 tons of new steel a much

  • stronger ship than was originally built, with 5 inch plate used to replace the original 4 inch hullplating and 100 tons of aluminum. Other refit statistics include over 56 miles of new wiring, 140tons of pipe work and a total of 1.2 million hours of labor consumed by the project over the 16months spent in Croatia. CHRISTINA O has incinerators, heavy-duty waste shredders, plus a galley with dedicatedspecialist pot washing rooms and four massive pantries. The engine room, a huge area, isdominated by two six cylinder diesels (2,775 hp MAN). With guests such as Sir Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, The Aga Khan, King Farouk ofEgypt, King Faud of Saudi Arabia, Eva Peron, John Paul Getty, John D. Rockefeller, JohnWayne, Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor, PrinceRanier and Grace Kelly, and, obviously, Maria Callas and Jacqueline Kennedy, CHRISTINA Ohas earned her place in history. With these credentials and support facilities, CHRISTINA O can charter, support large privateparties, or even act as a mothership to a J-boat program. She is capable of sleeping the entirerace crew and wives on board while being a great base of operation for such an event. REBUILDGeneralThe Christina O was completely rebuilt in 2001. The 1943 registration is retained for provenancevalue. In the year 1999, Costas Carabelas Technical Office was appointed by the owners to plan, design and perform the technical management of this vessel to a mega yacht/passenger vesselfollowing IMO requirements as new ship and in particular: SOLAS '74 (as amended) for carrying up to 36 passengers for international voyages Load Line '66 Convention MARPOL '78 Convention PSSC for 157 passengers for short international voyages (not overnight). The biggest challenge was to create a new vessel in terms of machinery and amenities whilenot disturbing the delicate character of this legendary vessel in terms of her spares and vasttrove of history. Areas like the main staircase, the main lounge, Ari's Bar, and the Lapis Loungehad to be preserved without changing this indisputable appearance and vast historicalsignificance. Details of the rebuild are below: As a certifying organization of the refit, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), as a top reputableclass, was selected. As a flag, the Panamanian Flag was chosen, joining the new with thehistory of the ship during the celebrity time of Onassis ownership. 1. Stripping Out

  • In the year 1999, the vessel was totally stripped out to a bare hull including main and auxiliarymachinery. Only deck machinery and steering gear were left in order to be examined at a laterstage. 2. Hull and SuperstructuresThe entire hull and superstructures passed an extreme close up survey to the minimum detailin order to assess and determine the extent of the parts to be renewed or to be locallytreated/repaired. The results were as follows. Main hull up to main deck was to be totally renewed. Main deck to be locally repaired accepting a maximum of 5% corrosion as a renewal limit. Superstructures (aluminum) to be locally repaired and modified to suit the new arrangementand class rules requirements. In order to keep the vessel identity in the hull, special care was paid to keep part of the bowstem and stern aftmost end, providing particular technology and treatment in the repair of shanktype riveted structure. The total steel hull renewal and repaired parts was 680 tons and thealuminum 110 tons. 3. Machinery a. Propulsion Main Engines - Two (2) main engines made by MAN-B&W of type 6L27/38 developing2079 Kw (2772 Bhp) at 800 RPM.
