If you are interested in learning the parts of a cow and how they affect milk production and longevity, join us at an upcoming dairy workout. Sign up by May 1 (form below) so we can be sure to include you in our communication about judging workouts. Contact Adam Luchterhand (715-937-2352) if you have questions about Dairy Judging.

WI Junior State Fair Sign-Up The Wisconsin State Junior Fair Dairy Show will be August 2-5, 2018. DAIRY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES from MARCH 13, 2018 at ADS – GREENWOOD Present: Dennis Roehl, Tom Meyer, Rich Meyer, Joe Ortner, Bob Wilke, Tanya Wilke, Amy Penterman, Brittany Lowry, Teri Raatz, Scott Pralle, Stacy Sandelier, Melissa Brecke, Cindy Kolzow, Adam Luchterhand and Chris Hollar The meeting was called to order by Rich Meyer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday March 13, 2018. A copy of the fall minutes was shared for everyone to read. Scott Pralle moved to approve the minutes as printed. Bob Wilke seconded the motion. Minutes were approved as printed. AREA ANIMAL SCIENCE DAYS: This will be held June 22nd at the Neillsville Fairgrounds. Scott Pralle and Joe Ortner are taking care of arranging for the dairy animals to be there. There will be 8 classes of dairy with three different breeds. Kevin Lindow is coordinating the beef, pigs, sheep and goats. There will be other people taking care of the food for the day.

JUDGING TEAMS: Adam Luchterhand and Jeremiah Hagen are coordinating this. Adam will get Chris the names of the first couple of farms they are going to judge at so she can put that information in the April newsletter. FITTING AND SHOWING CLINIC: The Jr. Holsteins will probably host a clinic in July. Not sure of dates yet. DISTRICT SHOW: This will be held Thursday June 28th at the Fairgrounds in Wausau. STATE FAIR: The State Fair will be held August 2nd through August 5th. Stacy Sandelier will be chaperoning the youth and possibly Scott Pralle. Details still need to be worked out yet. Anyone showing at the State Fair this year needs to have taken the YQCA class and this needs to be done by June 6th which is the day entries are due as well. You need to let the Extension Office know by May 1st if you are interested in going to the State Fair. Youth will again be looking for donations to help offset the cost of going. The Leaders Federation will be giving $145/youth going to State Fair. One of the changes for this year at the fair is with regard to signage. The Clark County sign that is hung at the fair cannot be hung any higher than 10 feet. The sign will have to be changed for this year as our sign is quite large and will then hang too low that people will be able to hit it if we keep the same sign. The number of animals that the youth take has not changed from the previous year. Scott is going to talk to Lance Bauer regarding trucking. CLARK COUNTY FAIR: August 8th through the 12th. Rich will check things over in the parlor to make sure it is ready to go. Adam will try to help with check-in on Wednesday. Dennis will be checking in on Thursday and has to clarify yet who will be helping him. The check-in process will be a little different this year as the youths fair tags also need to be scanned when they bring their animals due to our new fair registry computer program that is being implemented. There was also discussion on whether we would use RFID tags and/or pictures of the animals for the check-in process. After much discussion, with having a new computer program, it was decided by the group to just stick with using pictures for the check in process for this year. Cindy Kolzow made this motion, seconded by Melissa. Motion passed. Scott and Adam will be taking care of the stall assignments. Showmanship will implement the changes that were discussed at the fall meeting. Supreme Showmanship will be Sunday morning. OTHER: It was stressed to everyone at the meeting to remind their youth showing animals that you do need to bring your fair tags with you this year as they need to be scanned when checking in. This is different from the past. Chris will be making sure all FFA advisors are aware of this as well and informing their students. Previously Provision has given out an Outstanding Dairy Exhibitor award. This has not been done in recent years as youth have to turn in record books and be nominated for this and a lot of the youth did not turn in record books. It was decided that this award would not be handed out this year. The youth did not receive any monetary gift or plaque, etc. just recognition. Also this year the Forestry and Parks Department is making the Fair Board sign a lease agreement to rent the fairgrounds during the fair. The Fair Board asked Chris if youth would be willing to clean up the fairgrounds after the fair. Chris stated she thought this would be very difficult, but just wanted our group to know about this as it may be coming in the future. Our next meeting will be Tuesday September 18, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at ADS in Greenwood. Tom Meyer moved to adjourn, seconded by Tanya Wilke and the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Submitted by Tanya Wilke

We will plan to book the Greenwood High School Cafetorium for the Awards Banquet on November 10, with the plan to have Gosse’s sound equipment available.

Chris Hollar has put together the 4-H Fair Project Bonus application. Will be shared with leaders at the April meeting. We currently have 1000 plat books on hand. When we are down to 500, Jennie Whitmire and Brittney Lowry will meet to begin plans for

the next plat book. The Drama/Music/Speaking Festival was well attended. Noise from the concession area continues to be an issue. Will explore alternative

venues. Participants that were chosen to represent Clark County at the State Fair also have the option of performing at Farm Technology Days on Wednesday, July 11. Two of four have expressed interest.

Work with the afterschool program in Thorp to increase 4-H awareness in the community will be on hold until fall due to scheduling conflicts.

There are no candidates for the Key Award this year. Chris Hollar shared her incentive plan as introduced in the March newsletter to increase the number of club secretary reports submitted for

publishing in the monthly newsletter. Committee Reports: Fair Board—Chris noted that the Forestry & Parks Department has put together a lease agreement contract for use of the fairgrounds

which may result in increased responsibilities for exhibitors. Swine Committee—Informational meeting on March 19, 7:30 p.m., Loyal H.S., Cafeteria very important for project members, leaders,

parents to attend. New state requirements will be discussed. Agent Hollar Report: Chris noted that the Fairground Fundraising Committee has met, but there is no definite movement forward at this point. Area Animal Science Day plans are set. Chris will be on vacation from April 16-27. Kyle Johnson moved to adjourn at 8:03 p.m. Seconded by Jennie Whitmire. Meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Susan Stiemann Secretary
