Season of AdventSeason of Advent
The Advent Season is celebrated during the
four weeks before Christmas. “Advent” is
from a Latin word meaning “coming” or
“arrival”.
During Advent we celebrate the coming or arrival of Jesus Christ.
The light from the Advent candles, which grows brighter each Sunday, reminds us Jesus is the light of the world.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Each Advent Sunday is celebrated with the lighting of a special candle.
1st Sunday – Candle of Hope2nd Sunday – Candle of Peace3rd Sunday – Candle of Joy4th Sunday – Candle of Love
A white candle, the Christ Candle, is lit on Christmas Eve.
This 1st Advent Sunday we will light the Candle of Hope
Jesus came just as God had promised. His coming gives us hope God will do for us all He has promised in His holy word.
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14
“…the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.” Luke 1:30-32
