DONNINGTON GROVEDonnington Grove is a fascinating chapter from a bygone era of English decadence. The original owner was James Pettit Andrews (1737-1797), a noted British Historian and translator whose major work was “A History of Great Britain”. It was Andrews who had Donnington Grove designed and built by John Chute in 1763, in the “Strawberry Hill Gothic” style of his friend Horace Walpole.

Welcome to Beau’s Bar and Restaurant at Donnington Grove.

Set amidst beautiful parkland with the River Lambourn winding through the grounds, this Newbury restaurant has large picture windows to make the most of the picturesque river views. The generous patio area is perfect for al-fresco dining or Afternoon Tea on a delightful, British summer day.

For those not wishing the formality of dinner with several courses, there is the option of the bar that has an extensive menu of light meals and snacks guaranteed to keep hunger pangs at bay.

Whether a full English breakfast, Afternoon Tea, a three-course evening meal or a traditional roast Sunday lunch, Donnington Grove’s menus provide tasty dishes that make the most of locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients.

Non residents are welcome. Reservations for the Beau’s Restaurant are preferred but not essential. Raise a glass to fashion icon Beau Brummell as you dine in style in the newly refurbished bar and restaurant.

With ornate battlements, pillars and statues it was expensive both to build and maintain. After Andrews’ departure in 1783, subsequent owner William Brummell had even grander designs – eventually expanding the estate to some 850 acres (and he didn’t even play golf). The house became the childhood home of his son, Edwardian style icon “Beau” Brummell (1778-1840), the man who revolutionised fashion and is credited with introducing the suit and neck tie to menswear.

FESTIVE AFTERNOON TEASA specialty of the House is the classic English Afternoon Tea, a delicious treat as well as a lovely gift idea – gift vouchers for Afternoon Tea are available from the hotel or online. During the Christmas period join us as afternoon tea takes on a festive twist, we offer children’s teas too and cater for all dietary requests and allergens.
