The spirit of Christmas will be alive and well at Cessnock West Public School’s Carols by Cand- lelight next Wednesday, December 4. School principal Cathie Ferguson said that previous Carols by Candlelight evenings have been well-support- ed by the wider local com- munity and have provid- ed a great night for the whole family. “Our school P and C is continually striving to raise much-needed funds for improvements and quality additions for our students to enjoy,” Mrs. Ferguson said. “Large projects such as the soft fall in the infants’ playground aren’t possi- ble without a major fundraiser. “Last year’s event raised almost $9000.” The proceeds from this year’s event will assist the P and C in reaching their goal in providing the primary students with a child-friendly sur- face that will enable them to enjoy a larger range of outdoor activi- ties at a safer level. “An event such as this is not possible without a hard-working and dedi- cated P and C and also generous support and assistance from a num- ber of local businesses,” Mrs. Ferguson said. The carols will be held in the infants’ play- ground and will feature performances by the school choir, students and teachers and special guests. Entry will be by gold coin donation which includes a free carols booklet. Food, drinks, novelties and showbags will be available. Gates open at 5.30pm and the event will finish at 8.30pm.
