Davies first wrote the story, which was first adapted into a screenplay for Twentieth Century Fox by George Seaton. This book was released in conjunction with themotion picture release on May 2, 1947. The original starred Maureen O’Hara, John Payne, Natalie Wood, and Edmund Gwenn. The movie was remade four times, most recently in 1994, and also adapted for television and theatre.
