THIS MONTH’S silver starDALE MABEE

Dale moved to The Woodmark in 2012 with his wife, Lilian. They both lived in our main building and later on, Lilian moved to the SPA. Dale lost Lilian just two days short of their 67th wedding anniversary. Dale has two daughters who, to Dale’s happiness, live close by in Sun City. He lives with his beautiful black cat named Puma.

Dale was born in South Dakota, living with his parents and three much older half brothers on a farm. When Dale was 12 years old, the family moved to “town.”

Dale had many jobs growing up, trying his hand at whatever he could to succeed and survive. He was most successful when he worked at The Core Industries as an office manager. There the “people that be” recognized his worth, going above and beyond just his job description. This led to a much more successful career, and Dale was rewarded for a job well done.

Dale enjoys woodworking, having gained access to tools needed for the job. Dale made several pieces of furniture for his family, many of which his daughters still have. Dale enjoys golfing, traveling and when his family was young, camping — first in a station wagon, then progressing to a trailer.

When asked what he enjoys most about living at The Woodmark, Dale replied, “It’s become home.” He also mentioned that though he is independent, anything he’s ever asked help for, he’s always received it.

Dale, you are a welcome addition to our Woodmark community.

It’s also a time to reflect on the year behind us and realize that our good fortunes don’t come wrapped in pretty paper and fancy bows. Our good fortunes are right in front of us.

This month we will be decorating within our halls for a start. We will have the Renaissance Carolers at our Mingle and Jingle to kick off the season right.

We will have the Maricopa Sheriff ’s Department for coffee and cookies. We will be going to see the Christmas lights. Ranger Justin will be here to talk about our state parks and bring some critters from our desert, if, as Ranger Justin said, they want to cooperate. EVENT RECAP

november — a great month to enjoy the outdoorsNovember brought us a grateful month. We had our first annual Woodmark Games Day, even though the rain tried to keep us inside. Representatives from Estee Lauder came to enhance our beautiful ladies, and on Veterans Day, we had veterans from Elks Lodge 2559 retire our flag and raise our new one. Thank you, gentlemen, for your service.

No matter what we are going through, there is always something to be thankful for.

THIS MONTH’S heart heroHOSPITALITY, EXCELLENCE, APPRECIATION, RESPECT, TEAMWORK

JENNIFER SCHILDTS started as the program coordinator at our SPA neighborhood in 2019. Previously, Jennifer worked as a sales counselor in our marketing department.

Jennifer is from DeMotte, Ind., and moved to Arizona when she was 10. Jennifer, her parents, brother and sister moved to be closer to her grandparents. Jennifer’s family all live in Glendale.

Jennifer is married with a daughter and son and two dogs. Her son is active in high school sports, and Jenn is an active sports mom.

Jennifer has been in the senior care field since she was 18 years old. Her close relationship with her grandparents led Jennifer to this field along with how much seniors have touched her heart.

Jennifer is a wonderful addition to The Woodmark, putting her creativity and love of crafts to use with the residents. She engages the residents, loves creating themed holiday crafts and gets the residents excited about it.

Jennifer enjoys hiking, going out to eat, family time and the Hallmark channel.

What Jennifer enjoys most about working at The Woodmark is the daily interactions with the residents, the bonds they share and making them smile.

It is a pleasure working with you, Jennifer. You are a welcome addition to our team.

IT’S OUR PLEASURE TO SERVE YOU … word from your executive directorMERRY CHRISTMAS!

The excitement is growing at our house at this time of year. Our 3-year-old twins are still not sure what they are excited about and they do not like talking with Santa, but they really like baking and eating Christmas cookies. Too, they have decorated and undecorated their little tree a dozen or more times each day. Making memories is the most fun part of being a parent. Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! May your holidays be blessed with family time together or with fond memories of holidays past. The holidays at The Woodmark of Sun City will be marked with change, but as a family we will look forward to the new year!
