A Report on Celebration of GANIT (Growing Aptitude
in Numerical Innovations & Training) Week.
This is Smt. Ramkuwar Devi Fomra Vivekananda Vidyalaya,
Chromepet, Chennai giving a detailed report on the celebration of
Ganit Week in our school from 16th to 22nd December, 2014 to
commemorate the birth anniversary of Shri Srinivasa Ramanujam
and to promote interest in mathematics among students.
It was indeed a pleasurable week with a vibration of mathematics
being felt all around. As the students were given the details of the
activities, the students were well prepared to take up the
competitions.
We followed the schedule given by the CBSE to the best of our
abilities.

18.12.2014 Quiz Competition
VI - VIII
Quiz was
conducted on the
topic algebra,
mensuration,
comparing
quantities and
patterns. About
150 students
participated in the preliminary and 18 students
were selected for finals.
They were grouped into 6 teams with three
members in each team. There were 5 rounds with 6
questions in each round. Students answered
vibrantly. 3 best teams were selected.
IX – X
Quiz was
conducted on
the topic
algebra,
mensuration,
logical
reasoning,
patterns in
figures and
numbers. Around 60 students participated and 14
of them were selected for finals and were made into
7 groups, (2 in each group). Final written test was
conducted. 4 best teams were selected as winners.
19.12.2014 The teachers shared their innovative method with
each other in the Maths Faculty meeting with
demonstration. Vedic maths which has been
brought as a syllabus for III std by the school was
also discussed by the teachers. The newly recruited
teachers learned vedic maths from the seniors.
20.12.2014 Maths Exposition
This exposition was
planned in the month
of august itself which
was displayed on this
day. Exhibits were
displayed under the

Patterns

symmetry
Integers
Area and
perimeter
Maths was also displayed by the other
subject as
well like
music,
yoga,
dance,
drawing
etc. Usage
of maths
in day to
day life
was also
highlight
ed
through
various
simple
activities
22.12.2014 III – V
a. on the eve of Ramanujam’s Birthday an
assembly
programme
about the life
of Shri
Ramanujam
was projected
on the stage
by the
students.
b. Students enacted
like
Shri Ramanujam
and Mr. Hardy
and discussed
about the special
number 1729.
VI - VIII
Origami was
conducted as
scheduled
and around
100 students
participated
in the same,
the best 5
were selected.
IX – X
Poster
making
competition
was
conducted.
50 students
participated
in the
competition.
The topics were
Maths in Nature
Maths and Architecture
Jewellery Design
The best 5 were selected.
An opportunity was given
to all the students who
came forward and
showed interest. Overall
around 500 students
participated in the
programme and it was
indeed a very satisfying
week.
