Memphis dates of tho 05th, rtAte that the steamer Curlew, from the Arkansas river, while aground at Johnson's Island, was at¬ tacked by guerrillas, but the roldiers on boArd drove them off, killing the leader, Tom Keenan, a notorious guerrilla and boat burner, better known as the wild Irishman. Major General Washburne bad arrived at Memphis and assumed command of the District of West Tennessee. The Memphis cotton market was firm and unchanged, The receipts were triflinr. The New Orleans "Era" em tk* "litss> tlen".Onr Ferces again em the Advance- Activity ef the Rebels, etc. N*w York, April 29..The steamer America from New Orleans on the 19th, has arrived. The Era of the 19th contain* late news from Qen. Banks' army. An expedition nnder Kirby Smith, which, with a portion of Admiral Porter's fleet, went up the river previous to the three days' battles, safely returned on the 13th. The greater portion of the rebel array Is at Mansfield, and on the river opposite thatnlaoe, at Conshata Shute, a rebel force was stationed, wbicb bad about fourteen guns in a battery along the river bank. The gunboats in return¬ ing were obliged to run the guantlet of those guns. In the fighting which followed their attempt to pass, the rebels were compelled to fall back from the river, giving the transports a clear passage. The boats suffered very little, some little splintered wood-work being all the injury sustained. As soon as thi« expedition arrived at Grand Ecore preparations were ac once made for the advance of the araoy. We have good reasons for believing that General Banks is again en route for Shreveport. A portion of our army ia known to have left Grand Ecore, moving out toward the rebel position. The return of the fleet from above furnUbed the army with a full supply of am¬ munition, tbe lack of which was the principal cause of its return to Grand Ecore, and the delay at that point. The men had entirely re¬ covered from their fatlgne. Tbe captain of the despatch boat Diligent was killed in rnnninc the batteries at Consbata Sbute. Gen. Mower's division ie still at Alexandria, and will proba¬ bly remain to protect the people from the incursions of guerrillas and raiding parties. The Era also says: We shall remain in daily expectation of hearing that Gen. Banks and. bis gallant army have again met the enemy, and that the overthrow of the rebel dominion in Louisiana is entirely accomplished. A battery had been planted at Oompte, a few miles above Grand Ecore, in conseqnenoe of which Gen. Kirby Smith burned the town. The transport steamer Black Hawk has ar¬ rived at New Orleans from Grand Ecore. On. returning to Grand Ecore, after bringing a number of wounded to tbe city, she was or¬ dered to proceed several miles further up the Red river, and endeavor to pull out of a rather unpleasant place the gunboat East port, which bad been hard agronnd for several days on a sand bar. She failed to get the Eastport off tbe bar, and started to return, but had scarcely got away from the protection ol her guns when rebel riflemen opened on her from the banks of th« river. The rebels numbered several hundr»d, and their firing was very rapid, bnt by pntt.ng nn *li tho ataom /hut could be raised the Blailc clutches. PENNSYLVANIA UNION STATE CON- VENTION. Hakripburg, April 2S.The Union State Convention, called for the purpose of placing in nomination tbe electoral ticket, electing delegates at large to the Baltimore National Convention, and to take such action as it may deem proper in reference to the approaching Presidential campaign, met here to-day. Ther« was a full attendance of delegates. Henry Johnson was elected temporary chairman. Afternoon Session. Tbe committee on permanent organization made a report nominating Mr. Wra. V. Law¬ rence, of Washington county, for president, and tbe usual number of vice presidents and secretaries. The report was adopted, and Mr. Lawrence, on taking tbe chair, delivered an address, in which he eulogized tbe Union party as being the only one able to save the ccuntr/, and said that nineteen-twentieths of all the soldiers in the army belonged to this organiza¬ tion and favored the re-election of Abraham. Lincoln. [Applause.] Resolutions were adopted that electors at large be instructed to support Abraham Lincoln for President, and to oppese all efforts to postpone the Baltimore Conven¬ tion; and that one of tbe hardest blows that could be inflicted on tbe rebels would certain¬ ly be the re-election of Mr. Lincoln. Mr. Pen¬ ny moved to proceed to ballot for four delegates to tbe Baltimore Convention. Simon Cameron, Alexander MeCiure, Mor¬ row B. Lowry, and W. W. Ketchum were de¬ clared elected, The contention then proceeded to nominate two Senatorial electors, and Thomas Cunning- bam, of Beaver, and Morton McMichael were chosen by acclamation. At the evening session, district electors and members of State Central Committee were chosen. The Committee on an address uiade a report. The address set forth that the honor and glory of the people were sufficient reason for urging tbe re-election of Mr. Lincoln, whose adminis¬ tration has presented all tbe powers and re¬ sources of the Government in their strongest light. It was necessary for a successful prosecu¬ tion of the war that there should be no change in the Administration at Washington. The fourth resolution returns thanks to loyal Senators and members at Harrisburg, for the faithful performance of their trusts, particu¬ larly for giving tbe right of suffrage to soldiers. Tne fifth resolution returns thanks to the brave soldiers in the field, who have sacrificed the comforts of home for the maintenance ot tbe principles of onr Government Tne resolutions were adopted unanimously. Senator Lowry was called on for a speech. He was lollowed by Messrs. McClnre, Ketch¬ um, and others. The convention continued in session till a late hour, and then adjourned sine die. LATER FROM BANKS' ARMY.The New Orleans "Era" em tk* "litss>tlen".Onr Ferces again em the Advance-Activity ef the Rebels, etc.N*w York, April 29..The steamerAmericafrom New Orleans on the 19th, has arrived. The Era of the 19th contain* late news fromQen. Banks' army. An expedition nnderKirby Smith, which, with a portion of AdmiralPorter's fleet, went up the river previous tothe three days' battles, safely returned on the13th.The greater portion of the rebel array Is atMansfield, and on the river opposite thatnlaoe,at Conshata Shute, a rebel force was stationed, wbicb bad about fourteen guns in a batteryalong the river bank. The gunboats in return¬ing were obliged to run the guantlet of those

guns. In the fighting which followed theirattempt to pass, the rebels were compelled tofall back from the river, giving the transportsa clear passage. The boats suffered very little, some little splintered wood-work being all theinjury sustained. As soon as thi« expeditionarrived at Grand Ecore preparations were aconce made for the advance of the araoy. Wehave good reasons for believing that GeneralBanks is again en route for Shreveport. Aportion of our army ia known to have leftGrand Ecore, moving out toward the rebelposition. The return of the fleet from abovefurnUbed the army with a full supply of am¬munition, tbe lack of which was the principalcause of its return to Grand Ecore, and thedelay at that point. The men had entirely re¬covered from their fatlgne. Tbe captain of thedespatch boat Diligent was killed in rnnnincthe batteries at Consbata Sbute. Gen. Mower'sdivision ie still at Alexandria, and will proba¬bly remain to protect the people from theincursions of guerrillas and raiding parties. The Era also says: We shall remain in dailyexpectation of hearing that Gen. Banks and.bis gallant army have again met the enemy, and that the overthrow of the rebel dominionin Louisiana is entirely accomplished.A battery had been planted at Oompte, a few

miles above Grand Ecore, in conseqnenoe ofwhich Gen. Kirby Smith burned the town. The transport steamer Black Hawk has ar¬

rived at New Orleans from Grand Ecore. On.returning to Grand Ecore, after bringing anumber of wounded to tbe city, she was or¬dered to proceed several miles further up theRed river, and endeavor to pull out of a ratherunpleasant place the gunboat Eastport, whichbad been hard agronnd for several days on asand bar.She failed to get the Eastport off tbe bar, andstarted to return, but had scarcely gotawayfrom the protection ol her guns when rebel

riflemen opened on her from the banks of th«river. The rebels numbered several hundr»d,and their firing was very rapid, bnt by pntt.ngnn *li tho ataom /hut could be raised the Blailcclutches.
