The Chula Vista Animal Care Facility (CVACF) takes in approximately 6,000 home- less animals each year from Chula Vista, National City and Lemon Grove. Animals housed at the shelter receive personalized care and comprehensive medical treatment to keep them safe and healthy. One of their biggest priorities is reuniting lost pets with their owners. Approximately 20% of of animal intake returns home. Last year over 800 animals were reclaimed or returned to their owners. When animals do not return home staff work hard to find a new home for them. Over 60% of our animal intake is rehomed. Almost 2,000 animals are adopted each year from our facility and over 700 are transferred to other partnering shelters that have the available space and/or special resources. Animal control officers ensure the safety of people and animals in the community. They respond to all sorts of calls - from a stray alligator, to a hoarder case, to a tree stranded cat. They respond 24/7 365 a year to animal related emergencies. Daily they counsel and advise pet owners on welfare issues that have been brought to our atten- tion. Dispatch receives over 10,000 calls per year. Former Mayor Cheryl Cox is a strong supporter of the CVACF. She and the staff will provide an update on their latest activities and may even bring a furry friend along to say hello. See you Friday!

Bring Items This Week Support CV Animal Care Facility

On March 13th

, Rotary Community Projects presents Cheryl Cox and representatives from the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility (CVACF) as our program. This program will highlight our annual project in support of this important community facility. As we do each year, we will be collecting items they need (please see “Wishlist”). This year there is an additional giving/support opportunity. The CVACF is in need of beds for the dogs and cats they house. If you would like to make a monetary donation towards that need, please see the information below (dog beds $135; cat beds $50). Through Community Projects Committee, our Rotary Club is donating funds to pur-chase a dog bed and two cat beds. We will present that check on the 13

th. If you

would like to donate ‘wish list’ supplies, please bring those to our meeting on March 6

th or 13

th.

EVERYONE who donates money and/or an item(s) for the Animal Care Facility will re-ceive a special ‘thank you’ from our friends at Chick-fil-a.
