Dear friends in Jesus Christ, Once in a small town a curious case came up in the court. An elderly man had been caught stealing two loaves of bread. He was presented before the magistrate who conducted the full hearing in the presence of 120 people who had come curiously to listen to the judgment. The man gave the reason that his wife, three children and elderly
parents were starving and he was unemployed. He had no money to buy bread to feed his starving family. After questioning and listening to the arguments, the judge was very angry and said this was a terrible crime and the man must be fined and he set a fine of $100. The accused thief was ashamed and put down his head as he had no money to pay. The Judge then did a strange thing. He quietly took out his purse and pulled out $100 and told the officer to accept the payment on behalf of the accused. Then he raised the voice and said it is something more criminal when a man without job had to steal bread to feed the family while 120 are wasting their time to watch the fun. All those present are fined $1 per head and asked the officer to collect the amount. He handed over that money to the accused man to buy food and told him to come next day and he would get him a job. It was truly a miracle in the life of a man who had secured a new life. As we are going to celebrate our Independence Day on July 4, I wish you a very happy Independence Day. Enjoy your vacation and pray for Religious Liberty. Almighty God, Father of all nations, For freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus (Gal 5:1). We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common good. Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties; By your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land. We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness. Sincerely, Fr Joseph.

Humanae Vitae Talking Circuit: In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI's last encyclical, Humanae Vitae, this talking circuit aims to revisit this important catechesis dealing with the Church’s teaching on the transmission of human life by looking at the philosophical, theological, scientific, and medical proofs evident within and discuss why this is so relevant in today's culture. Led by Mr. Jamin Herold (Executive Director, Parish Life & Lay Leadership for the Diocese of Kalamazoo) and Dcn. Don Bouchard, DO (President and Medical Director for Holy Family Healthcare), time will be provided at the end for a question and answer session. Today is the Peter’s Pence Collection, a worldwide collection that supports the charitable works of Pope Francis. Funds from this collection help victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters.
Thank you friends of St. Mary's—St. Vincent de Paul, with your help - 28 clients with 69 people were able to be helped since October to pay part or all of their bills to prevent eviction or shut off of utilities. $1,262.79 helped 12 clients pay electric bills, $3,050 helped 18 clients pay rent and $1,198.32 helped 8 clients pay Paw Paw Village utilities. The Society also paid $119.26 toward the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, and $2,476.75 for the annual Christmas Basket program. St, Vincent de Paul could not do this without your contributions. God bless you for your generosity in helping the poor of our community.
ABOUT OUR WEBSITE - Are you saying to yourself, "Now what?" We need YOU! St. Mary has a great-looking, digital presence on the internet with our redesigned site and our Facebook page, but to avoid becoming one of those one-dimensional or static, "all-surface-no-substance” websites, we need your GOOD NEWS, PLANNED UPCOMING EVENTS, MEETING MINUTES, EVENT PICTURES, and PLANS in order to captivate real, live, human readers. The goal for our website and Facebook page is to have THE BEST EFFECT: Informed and connected parishioners; New parishioners; Welcomed guests, BE FUNCTIONAL: Easy to use, and BE INTERACTIVE: Users receive more than what they were looking for. Users seek our site as a source of information. Our St Mary website and Facebook page meet the technical mark but will fall short on the content without you. Please text or call Kellye Poage 269-743-8140 and email, call or visit the church office with pictures or content for the website.
Knightly News What a beautiful day. Still waiting for the forecasted showers, but it is getting so late now that it will not be able to ruin the day. Might put a damper if you are having an outside get together. I was going to fill you in with all the charities the Knights sponsor over the year, but was informed of a change in the printing schedule of the bulletin and that did not allow me time enough to get it done. So, here goes another thought of mine. I hope it is helpful. Does it seem to you that things are coming at you faster and faster and you can’t seem to just sit and relax for a few minutes? The other day my wife said to me “YES! Next week there is not a thing on the calendar.” GUESS WHAT HAPPENED! As soon as she finished talking, the phone rang with a change in an appointment time, etc., and within two days, the week was full. I think the Knights of Columbus over the years has adopted a way of handling this daily stress. They pray before the meeting, during the meeting, and after the meeting. (every meeting) No matter how hot the issue, it seems to have a calming effect on everyone there. Think it might help if when this stress starts to build on us that we try their example and take time to stop and ask for God’s help? Just “God, please help me to calm down, relax, or understand.” It is good enough, or your favorite prayer. Give it a try. See you next week. PGK Blaine Douglas
