• THE BIBLICAL BASIS• FOR THE OFFICE OF DEACONS

• 18 Then the LORD said to Aaron: “You and your sons and your father’s house with you shall bear the iniquity related to the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity associated with your priesthood. 2 Also bring with you your brethren of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may be joined with you and serve you while you and your sons are with you before the tabernacle of witness. 3 They shall attend to your needs and all the needs of the tabernacle; but they shall not come near the articles of the sanctuary and the altar, lest they die—they and you also. 4 They shall be joined with you and attend to the needs of the tabernacle of meeting, for all the work of the tabernacle; but an outsider shall not come near you.

6 Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists] because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. 2 Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. 3 Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; 4 but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, 6 whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them.


THE OFFICE OF A DEACON

The office of Deacon in the R.Z.U.A Church is filed with a layperson.

He/she must be a person of good judgment and truly devoted to God. (Read Acts 6th Chapter.)

**(Under the administration of Bishop G.H. Studivant women were permitted to become deacons.)


BECOMING A DEACONA Deacon shall be appointed by the Pastor in

Charge,

and after he has served six months he shall be brought before the Quarterly Conference to be

ordained,

he must be a man of good judgment and truly devoted to God. (Read Acts 6th Chapter.)


• BECOMING A DEACON

• His spirit and conduct must be such that becomes the Gospel of Christ,

• He is willing to abide by the Rules and Regulations of our Church;


• DEACONS AND THEIR DUTIES• A Deacon shall meet his Class once each month:

• to visit those who may be absent as soon as • possible,• to inquire how their Souls prosper• to Advise, Reprove, Comfort, as occasion may be.• to receive support for church and pastor• To support the spiritual work of the Ministry


• DEACONS AND THEIR DUTIES

• To make weekly or monthly collections

• To pay into the hands of the Preacher’s Steward the money received from their respective Classes.

• To apply through the Pastor to the Poor Steward for means of relief for his needy Members.



• To collect from his Members as much as he can of the General Claims assessments and special assessments and report the same to the Pastor.

• To see that the Bishop is taken care of on his Episcopal and special visits and to see that the Preacher is taken care of and that he gets what is allowed to him.

• To serve as Pastor’s Steward when appointed• Coordinate care and support for pastor• Ensure pastor’s comfort and awareness• Care for pastor’s service support needs• Maintain pastor’s mobility when needed• Ensure pastor has privacy when needed• Know, and keep pastor on planned schedule

• DEACONS RESPONSE TO PASTOR (Discipline)

• Amount Deacon has paid Pastor.• Amount collected from Class Members for Pastor.• Amount of General Claims paid by Deacon.• Miscellaneous matters.

• IF A CHARGE OF MISCONDUCT IS LODGED AGAINST A DEACON:
