Galatians 1:6-7 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

1) The pressure: to “remove themselves”– Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate

us from the love of Christ…For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord

• To what were they being tempted to remove themselves?– “Another gospel which is not another”—a

different Gospel, which is no Gospel at all– Hebrews 10:26-27 For if we sin willfully

after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries

Three arguments relative to this other “gospel”:

1) No other gospel is to be accepted– Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an

angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed [irredeemable, as an item devoted to sacrifice, Leviticus 27:28]

Three arguments relative to this other “gospel”:2) From where did the wonders and your

obedience come?– Galatians 3:1-2 O foolish Galatians,

who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Three arguments relative to this other “gospel”:

3) What about righteous Abraham (3:6ff)?– The Abrahamic promise necessitates

Christ (3:8-14)– The Abrahamic promise came before

the law (3:17)– The Law was a schoolmaster to bring

us to the fulfillment of the promise (3:23-29)

2) The period: “so soon,” i.e., quickly– Their departure happened so soon

after Paul’s visit (4:13-16) —or—– Their departure was progressing

so quickly

Unfaithfulness happens quickly

3) Paul’s perception: He “marveled” (Mark 6:6; John 4:27)

– I Corinthians 3:12-15 …If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Do we know the disappointment we bring on others?

What about the joy when we return (Luke 15)?

Consider During the Lord’s Supper:

Matthew 26:26-28 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
