EUCHARISTIC ADORATION—Come drop by for a visit, however long or short on Wednesday, August 31. Committed Adorers are needed to ensure that Jesus is never left unattended between 9:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS—”Love is work. It’s good work, if you can get it. But it’s work, nevertheless.” (Benjamin Cheever) Name one thing your beloved has done for you that you know took extra effort on their part. ~©2016 by Susan Vogt, www.SusanVogt.net.

PARENTING POINTERS—Imposing a punishment is no fun for the parent or child. First parents must show self-discipline in deciding the best action, then execute it with loving firmness. What’s your discipline of choice—an extra chore, removal of a privilege, time-out…? ~©2016 by Susan Vogt, www.SusanVogt.net.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE (TWENTY FIRST SUNDAY IN

ORDINARY TIME)—The phrase in today’s gospel, “I don’t know

where you come from,” is often used by parents about children and

children about parents. Change is so rapid one generation has little in

common with another. We depend on love, trust and mutual respect to

bridge this gap.

RACHEL’S VINEYARD—A weekend retreat designed to heal the

emotional and spiritual wounds of abortion will be held Friday through

Sunday, September 16-18 at the Spiritan Center in Bethel Park. In a

confidential and supportive atmosphere, Rachel’s Vineyard demonstrates

God’s love, forgiveness and compassion to women (and men) struggling

with abortion aftermath. To register or for more information, call Toni

Jester at 412-352-5348 or email [email protected].

HOLY TRINITY UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH—The

church’s parish festival will be held this Sunday, August 21, from 12:30-

8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Ridge and Ewing Roads. There will be

games for all, a bake sale and entertainment by Mansfield Five. For more

information, call 412-279-4652. All are welcome.

PITTSBURGH WOMEN’S EMMAUS—Who am I? What is my purpose? Is my faith important to me? Where am I going? Is Jesus part of my daily life? The Emmaus weekend is a time for reflecting, renewing, relaxing and rejoicing. It is an opportunity to build valuable relationships, as we discover who we are and whose we are: daughters and sons of the most High. DOORS OF MERCY Exploring God’s Covenant with You —Join us! For only the fourth time in Church history, a Pope has declared an Extraordinary Jubilee Year. And the focus? Pope Francis’ central message: Mercy! Learn to give and receive forgiveness, to forgive others, to forgive yourself. We invite you to join us as we participate in a Parish wide program, Doors of Mercy. This is not a bible study, there

is no written homework, just 8 simple sessions that will allow you to experience God’s hope, healing and loving mercy in this once-in-a-lifetime program. Even if you’ve never participated before, please, we invite each and every one of you to join us – you’ll be so glad you did. Please check the bulletin and Parish website (olgscott.org) for more details. The first session begins on Wednesday, September 14 at 9:45

a.m. and Thursday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. Register after Masses next weekend, August 27 and 28 in the Church Vestibule or anytime online. Today’s bulletin insert is also a registration form. For more information contact Geoff Schnieder at 412-279-7070 or e-mail [email protected].

OUR LADY OF GRACE FACEBOOK PAGE—We now have

a Facebook page. You can like us at “Our Lady of Grace Scott Twp,

PA”. We will be regularly updating our Facebook page with Parish

activities and announcements.

This Sunday, the Twenty-first in Ordinary Time, is a kind of pivot for our Parish. Having just completed the wonderful week of our Parish Festival, we now turn to the opening of the OLG school year. I see these two Parish events as apostolic outreaches of fellowship and catechesis that celebrate the vital life of our Parish community. I love them both: the Festival and our Catholic school. Our children and teenagers are especially served by these joyful Parish activities. It’s a real joy to see the kids excited when they see

their friends at the Festival after several weeks of summer vacation. It helps them reconnect with each other before they return to classes this week. I want to personally thank Erin King for the masterful job she has done the past few years as the chairwoman of our OLG Festival Committee. When you realize the coordination of volunteers, vendors, services, performers, businesses and equipment that comprise our amazing Festival, you begin to appreciate the talent, skill and intelligence it takes to organize the hundreds of moving parts that comprise the Festival. We all owe Erin King, especially me, a great debt of gratitude for her tireless and intelligent work of pulling the Festival together and giving it some innovations. Thanks, Erin, for everything you do to make our Festival such a splendid Parish celebration. I also want to personally thank Sharon Brown for the outstanding job she has done and continues to do as OLG’s Catholic School principal. As with the weeklong Festival, the school has hundreds of moving parts, let alone students, and Sharon has the talent and intelligence to integrate all the teachers, families, students, volunteers, programs, curriculum improvements and service vendors into a wonderful opportunity for Catholic education for our children. Thank you, Sharon, for your investment in the OLG Catholic School and your able leadership these past few years. I wanted to thank Erin and Sharon in this column, They’ll thank everyone else who have contributed to our Festival and School. I love this place and its people! Rev. Richard A. Infante Pastor

Welcome to all here today celebrating Mass with us at Our Lady of Grace Parish.

WHAT IS A PARISH CONSULTATION SESSION—and

why am I needed? On Mission for The Church Alive!, our diocesan-

wide planning initiative, won’t fully succeed without everyone’s input.

Draft proposals of new models of ministry will be presented, taking

into account our parish membership, Mass attendance, sacramental

participation, services, finances and much more. This is your chance to

get the facts and help shape the future. Here at Our Lady of Grace

Parish, consultation sessions will be held on Thursday, November 10

and Monday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. in Keefer Hall. Please plan

to attend one of the sessions. Learn more at

www.OnMissionChurchAlive.org.

ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE

WHO?—has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic? Was

baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of

Confirmation and/or Eucharist? We offer an opportunity to come

together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus

on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare adults to

celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation

and Eucharist during the Easter season. You are

welcome to participate in the process with your

questions, your insights and your faith story in a

warm accepting setting. For information please

contact Geoff Schnieder at the rectory: 412-279-7070,

[email protected].
