KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE: St. Anne's Shrine, Isle LaMotte

On Sunday, July 19th, Knights of Columbus from throughout the Diocese of Ogdensburg will participate in their 72nd annual pilgrimage to St. Anne's Shrine in Isle LaMotte, Vermont. State Deputy Wally Wych will welcome Most Reverend Terry A. LaValley, who will celebrate mass at 12:15 p.m. Families are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds following mass. The Peru Knights will not be serving lunch this year, and the Shrine's cafeteria will not be open.

Beautiful St. Anne's Shrine is located on the shores of Lake Champlain only a few miles from the Rouses Point Bridge. The Shrine's religious history began in 1666 when the French erected a fort and chapel on the site. The chapel was blessed in 1893, and a beau-tiful statue of St. Anne, the mother of Mary, was erected.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

How can I be ‘good steward’ during the predicted hotter summer? According to world top scientists the greatest human contributor to carbon emis-sions is refrigeration. (Drawdown, ed. Pau Hawkins 2018) Turning the air condition and freezer a few degrees less cold this summer can reduce the car-bon emission that causes warming of the climate globally. Those without the resources to adapt to the heat are bearing the heaviest burden. How can we make a difference?

HEALING MASS St. Anthony’s is hosting a healing Mass with Fr. Amedeo Guida July 16, 2020 Rosary at 5:00 pm, Mass at 6:00 pm Limited seating RSVP to Sr. Rani: 315-816-8216.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

What can I do? During the Coronavirus it has been necessary to use enormous amounts of sin-gle use plastics to provide protection for health care workers. What can I do to help offset this increase of plastics that are thrown away after one use? At home can we find alternatives, i.e. reusable cups, plates and silverware or paper products for our summertime picnics and family gatherings. This reduces the amount of trash in our landfills and the amount of petroleum used to manufacture them.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you know? ...

Did you know…Although Virtus Training remains a requirement, the Bishop suspended all “live” VIR-TUS (safe environment) training sessions until further notice due to the coronavirus. If you need to complete VIRTUS training for your employment or volunteer ministry, contact the Safe Environ-ment Office to make arrangements to complete this required training in an online format. For more information, visit: https://www.rcdony.org/safe-environment.html#virtus

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. (Gen: 28:15

FROM THE DESK OF FR. JONAS

A word, be it spoken or written, always has something to do with person who speaks or writes. There is power and inspiration in a human word and through it we feel contact with a living person. The same can be said of the word of God. As the great Hebrew poet Isaiah says, it never returns “void” but always fertile. The power of God’s word is like the force of seed, which makes us hope for fruit and harvest. Today’s Scripture readings tell us about God’s word, what can and should happen to it when it is spoken to human beings, to you and to me. Various kinds of people hear God’s word, but the harvest ( the results of that living contact through his word) are not the same in all people. “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and chocked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirty-fold. Who-ever has ears ought to hear.” Where do you classify yourself? “The seed is the word of God. Christ is the sower. All who come to him have life forever.” “Thank you, Jesus, for sowing your word into my heart. Help me to nurture it so that I can become more like you.”

COMPLETE THE 2020 CENSUS: respond now. It is im-portant to complete the census. Census results affect plan-ning and funding for education—including programs such as Head Start, Pell Grants, school lunches, rural education, adult education, and grants for preschool special educa-tion; planning and funding for infrastructure—including pro-grams for highway planning and construction, Section 8 hous-ing, federal transit, community development, and rural water and waste disposal systems; planning and funding for employ-ment and training—including programs for vocational rehabili-tation state grants, dislocated workers, and American Indian and Alaska Native employment and training; planning and funding for healthcare—including programs such as Medicaid, Medicare Part B, State Children’s Health Insurance, and the

prevention and treatment of substance abuse.

A census response is required from every property, including seasonal homes: If you live at multiple places throughout the year, count yourself at the address where you live and sleep most of the time. If you split your time evenly between two or more places, count yourself where you were staying on April 1, 2020. However, a census response is required from each and every property.
