First we hear Luke’s description of those events in the opening verses of the Acts of the Apostles. Next we hear words of encouragement and guidance from the Letter to the Ephesians. Finally we hear Mark’s account of the Ascension, foretelling the mighty words and acts the Christian community would do in Jesus’ name. Together these scriptures give us a vision of the mission of the church of Jesus Christ—a mission statement of sorts. Like mission statements in our parishes and corporations, this mission statement can help us set priorities and focus our activities. Dear Parishioners,

My brother priests, the deacons, and the Pastoral Staff join me in extending our prayerful best wishes to all the mothers of the parish as we observe Mother’s Day. We also congratulate all those women who exert a maternal influence upon others; grandmothers, sisters, godmothers, stepmothers, and aunts. May God reward you for sacrifices and good example! Father Lewk and his family have decided to postpone the observance of the Fiftieth Anniversary of his Ordination until a Sunday in October. Father hopes to be more accustomed to his new knee for the celebration. Last week when I mentioned the prize of the widescreen TV for the Annual Catholic Appeal, a couple from the parish called to say that they would donate a $200.00 gift certificate to Chadwick’s Restaurant as a second prize. For every one-hundred dollars paid by December 8th, you will have a chance at these two prizes. Next Sunday, May 20th, will be the Solemnity of Pentecost. The sacraments of Confirmation will be celebrated at the 10:30am Mass. We will also be celebrating the First Holy Communion of our young parishioners at the 9:00am mass which will be bilingual and at the 12:00pm mass in English. We congratulate the youngsters, their parents and catechists. I ask all of he parishioners to join me in praying that the parents of these children will accompany them to mass every Sunday so that the children might have a lifelong love of the Eucharist.

Let’s pray for each other,

Msgr. Kevin B. Noone

P.S. Congratulations to Ed and Alba Savage who are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary! May they have many more.
