The Solemnity of Christ the King Theme/Call To Worship The church year comes to a close with the solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. On this day we celebrate Jesus Christ as our universal King and Judge. Introduction To The Word Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17: The first reading from the prophet Ezekiel, spoken in the days of Israel’s captivity in Babylon, focuses mostly on the positive. With the shepherds of Israel that led the sheep astray now gone, it is God himself who will serve as the shepherd. He will gather the scattered sheep and bring them to pasture and give them rest. But as the divine shepherd, the Lord God also serves as judge of the sheep: The sheep themselves, like the previous shepherds, will be held accountable for their behavior. 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28: The second reading from Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians offers his most sustained discussion on the resurrection and lays out the order of events associated with the eschaton (end-time). Matthew 25:31-46: The Gospel reading is the conclusion to Jesus’ eschatological (end-time) discourse with his disciples. Jesus speaks to his disciples as the Son of Man coming at the end of time to judge “all the nations.” Judgment will be swift and clear, and the criterion for judgment is also clear: whatever you did—or did not do—“for one of the least brothers of mine” will determine your eternal fate. The divine imperative to feed the hungry, care for the sick, clothe the naked, visit the prisoner, and welcome the stranger provides the framework for all believers to understand clearly God’s expectations. Adapted from Liturgical Publications Inc, Connect! Uniting Word & World, Dr. Daniel J. Scholz

Catholic Underground at OLGC – Saturday, December 1st 7:30pm – 10:30pm, is a cultural apostolate of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. The first part of the evening is Eucharistic adoration, and begins with Vespers (Evening Prayer), and ends with Benediction. The second part showcases Catholic artists. Here we experience the “new evangelization”. The Underground includes music, poetry, visual art, dancers, film, drama, etc. We end our evening as we began, with the prayer of the Church. Compline (Night Prayer) is simple and beautiful. It concludes with a hymn to Our Lady, Daughter Zion, Mother of the New Jerusalem.

The STM Fall Semi-Annual Appeal is currently open. We are hoping now to install

automatic doors from the ramp to the Chapel which will make entering easier, particularly during the

cold months when we cannot leave the doors open all the time. We are also hoping to install a stair lift from the Church to the Rectory, thereby expanding

access to the facilities and meeting rooms in the Rectory. The appeal also enables us to meet our

ordinary expenses. Ordinary does not mean inexpensive, nor does it mean unimportant. These

expenses continue at times when many parishioners are away. We are most grateful for your strong and

continuing care and support.
