Pentecost
When we read today the passage of Pentecost in the Acts of the Apostles, we are reminded of the people from many places in the world that were present in Jerusalem that day. Even if they spoke different languages, they were able to understand the preaching and the message of the Resurrection from Saint Peter and the apostles. The Holy Spirit gave them the gift of tongues. If today we walk our streets in the Bronx, we also see people from all over the world, that speak many different languages. In our Churches, we have Masses and services in different languages, but there is one common language that is characteristic of us Christians: the language of love and charity. There is no institution in the world that has as many hospitals, orphanages, houses for older people, and a long list of charitable works throughout the globe. We, too, should be part of that, maybe we can participate or contribute to an institution of charity or maybe not, but we can always smile, be gentle and help all even if we don’t speak their language. A new Pentecost, a new sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit: love around us. Okay, maybe not new because is not the Holy Spirit the Love of God? Come Holy Spirit! Come Love of God to our families!
God bless, Father José Félix

Daily Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Breathe into me Holy Spirit, That all my thoughts may be holy. Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Filled with the Holy Spirit, the apos-tles begin to speak in tongues (Acts 2:1-11). Psalm — Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104). Second Reading — In one Spirit we are baptized into one body (1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13) or Romans 8:8-17. Gospel — Jesus Christ appears to the disciples and sends them on their mission (John 20:19-23) or John 14:15-16, 23b-26. The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, Interna-tional Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today we are at the fiftieth day of the Easter celebra-tion: seven weeks of seven days, a week of weeks, now culminating in a festival fiftieth day. While the liturgical color of the Easter season is gold, on this last day we have red. For the first thousand years of the church, there were no firm rules for using colors. Only wealthy church-es could afford a full array of colors, and most places used the best vestments, no matter the color, for the great-est feasts. The Church spelled out an exact plan for color, including red for Pentecost, only in 1570, but local differ-ences held on until the 1800s. Color experts tell us that red is a hot color, best used for fast-paced, upbeat, active experiences. It is hard to be neutral before red, as any matador will tell you. It invites commitment, draws you in. It is a stimulating color, en-gaging the eye, stirring hunger. It is the most fitting color for this day when we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit into our lives, a dynamic presence overturning neu-trality in favor of passion and commitment.

Sacred Heart of Jesus today I wish to live in You, in Your grace, in which I desire at all costs to persevere. Keep me from sin and strengthen my will by helping me to keep watch over my senses, my imagination, and my heart. Help me to correct my faults which are the source of sin. I beg You to do this, O Jesus, through Mary, Your Immaculate Mother. Amen.
