COLLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 20th Offertory $23,046| Online $3,033 | Total $26,079

An Invitation from St. Elizabeth School: We invite all veterans to our Veterans Day Prayer Service on Thursday, November 8th, at 1 pm at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Refreshments to follow. The children of St. Elizabeth School would like to honor veterans for all their sacrifices.

+ My dear parishioners and friends:

As you know, last weekend my homily focused on the prayer known as The Examen – the examina-

tion of conscience. What a beautiful prayer it is and something we should all try to incorporate into

our lives! Love of God and love of our neighbor are the two most important things that Jesus asked

of us. It follows then that looking to ourselves each day to see where we are succeeding and where

we can improve will help us draw closer to the ultimate purpose of our lives which is to be saints.

To have this nightly dialog with God, there are just five steps to consider at the end of each day:

1) Sincerely ask God for light to see ourselves as He sees us.

2) Express our gratitude knowing how blessed we are and for all the gifts we have received.

3) This is the crux of the prayer. Gently review the day. With Jesus at our side, consider everything that took place dur-

ing the day and focus on the moments that stand out as good or bad.

4) Focus on just one or two of those moments to analyze what we did or failed to do. Pay attention to how you feel about

them. As I mentioned, it’s not that we want to run our lives by feelings, but our true deep feelings will reflect how our

conscience either rewards us or reprimands us.

5) Make a resolution for the next day to be better. Finally, end with the Our Father prayer.

I hope that you will take this challenge to heart and make the Examen a part of your daily routine.

On another topic, if you are not receiving our Monday email blast regarding our weekly website videos, I would strongly en-

courage you to send an email to Lisa Tota ([email protected]) to give her your address. This way you will be able to

know first-hand all that is happening on a weekly basis at St. E’s.

If you didn’t see the video this past week, I gave a summary from inside the construction site so that you could have a bird’s

eye view of the progress being made there. If the weather cooperates with us this winter, we hope to be officially opening the

chapel by Easter of next year. Soon, we will publish a list of items needed for the chapel that you may wish to donate in the

name of a loved one or in honor of your family. The choices will range from chairs to stained glass windows and much more

in between.

In this week’s video, I also mentioned that our movie (Trinity’s Triumph) will hopefully be complete by the middle of De-

cember, at which time we will shop it around to find a distributor. Thank you all for asking and for your prayers. My great

hope is that you will be able to see it by next March or April.

Finally, I will leave copies at our Help Desk in the Narthex of Bishop Robert Barron’s latest book entitled Letter to a Suffer-

ing Church: A Bishop Speaks on the Sexual Abuse Crisis. For those of you interested in following this topic, I highly recom-

mend this book. His insights offer encouragement and hope!

May God continue to bless each and every one of you, my dear friends and parishioners!

In Christ’s Peace,

P.S. Thank you for contributing to our Sharing God’s Blessings appeal. Thanks to your generosity we have reached 88% of

our goal and only need to raise another $16,000. Please call Jack Polito (201-891-1122 ext. 202) if you wish to contribute.

Kidz Korner is in need of volunteers: Jesus loves the little children, and Kidz Korner brings Jesus to little children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years on Sundays during the 10:30 Mass. The commitment is easy; we follow the Wyckoff school calendar and work in teams so you don't need to be there every week. Volunteers arrive at 10:00 and leave 11:45 a.m. Please consider joining our team. It's a wonderful way to build community and share your gifts and love for Jesus and His little ones. For more infor-mation, please contact Donna at [email protected].

Join the Gather the Children Liturgy Team:

The Gather the Children program is for children in grades K-5 and takes place during the 10:30 am Sunday Mass. It is a special celebration of the Word of God geared to-ward children and is held in the Elizabeth Room. Adults and families like yours take turns leading the prayers and songs, proclaiming scripture, and discussing the Gospel with the children. Children return to the Church to celebrate the Eucharist with their parents.

The time commitment is minimal - occasional Sundays from 10 am to 11:45 am. Adults or entire families are welcome to participate as part of the volunteer team. Older sib-lings can come and help too. Please contact Donna at [email protected] for more information.

Rosary Society: Rosarians will be meeting on Thursday, November 7th at 10am in the Elizabeth Room. Father Carlos will be our presenter. All are welcome.
