Scripture Corner:
FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
First Reading: Isaiah 2:1-5 The words of Isaiah urge all people to forsake war and to live in peace forever. The tone reaches a climax in the words, “One nation shall not raise the sword against another, nor shall they train for war again.”
Second Reading: Romans 13:11-14 Paul invites us to put away all the things of dark-ness and sin and to prepare for the coming of Christ.
Gospel: Matthew 24:37-44 A comparison is made between the destruction caused by the flood in Noah’s time and the need to be prepared for the second coming of Christ. “You must be prepared in the same way. The Son of Man is coming at the time you least expect.”

St. Mary's Adopt-A-Family Program:
As we look forward to the coming holiday season
and to celebrating a joyous Christmas, we also
keep in mind those less fortunate. There are al-
ways many families that are facing hardship this
season. Some are families with small children,
some are elderly and having a difficult time paying
for medications and food. We can help by
"adopting" a family and providing a Christmas meal
or a few small gifts to make Christmas a little bit
brighter for these families. The Community Center
of Northern Westchester refers their neediest fami-
lies to us. All are local families. You can choose to
adopt a family for Christmas, or make a small con-
tribution to the program. For more information,
please contact Roanne at 914-715-5542
or Janine at [email protected] or 914-439-
4663 . The deadline for adopting a family is De-
cember 1 but contributions to the program can be
accepted up until December 11th.

FOR 2016, ST. MARY'S ADVENT SERVICE
WILL BE ON A FRIDAY!..."Come away from the
busyness and noise of the world for an Advent Can-
dlelight Evening of Music, Readings and Reflec-
tions. Join with the St Mary's Community on Friday

the peaceful and quiet anticipation of the coming of
our Lord and Savior. Wine and cheese, appetizers
and soft drinks will be served immediately follow-
ing in the St Joseph's Room.
Five Reasons Why It Is Important to Participate in Eucharistic Adoration
1. In order to convert America and save the world, we need every parish to come before the Blessed Sacrament in Holy Hours of Prayer. (St. Teresa of Calcutta)
2. Eucharistic Adoration is the MOST necessary mission of the Church, which has more need of prayerful souls then of powerful preachers. (St. Peter Julian Eymard)
3. Outside of Mass, a Holy Hour is the BEST WAY to grow spiritually. (Blessed Paul VI)
4. Do you realize that Jesus is there in the Blessed Sacrament for you, for you alone? He burns with a desire to come into your heart. (St. Theresa of Lisieux)
5. Especially amid life’s difficulties, visit the Blessed Sacrament of the infinite love of Christ and His Mercy, and often abandoned in church-es, to speak with Him in silence, to peacefully entrust yourself to Him. (Pope Francis)

the abortions, infanticide and euthanasia taking
place in the United States . Please join Christians
throughout the nation in spending one hour with us
in reparation for these sins! “And he told them a

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
