Proper Dress in Church During the Summer

In Matthew’s Gospel (22:1-14), Christ tells the Apostles the parable of the king, who hosted a wedding feast. When the king came to meet his guests, he found one who was not dressed properly, that is, he was not wearing a wedding garment. The king had the man removed from the feast because, as he said, “Many are called but few are chosen.”

Each week we are invited to a great feast by a King. He is not an earthly King, but rather, the King of the Universe, the King of Time and Eternity—God Him-self. The feast is not an earthly feast of any sort—it is the Eucharist, the center of our Catholic faith. Yet many attend this greatest of feasts before our King in shorts, tee shirts, halter tops, cut offs, flip flops, etc. Would we dress this way for a dinner with the President?

For one hour each week let us dress with the respect due our King and his feast.

DO NOT THE GRACES FROM THESE MASSES GET AWAY

St. Marys has many weekday Masses without intentions as close by as August 2015.

Last year at this time we already had the current year filled and had to open the next year's Mass book!!

We need your help in getting intentions for these Masses. Masses can be said for both the living and the de-ceased, for weddings, for birthdays, for families, for thanksgiving, for groups, for causes or for private "special intentions". Do not let the graces from these Masses get away!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2015-2016 REGISTRATION

Inquiries can be addressed to 914-232-4648 or to [email protected].

REGISTRATION FOR CURRENTLY ENROLLED FAMILIES HAS ENDED.

NEW FAMILIES AND FIRST GRADERS

Registration for families new to the area and new first graders will take place in person at the Reli-gious Education Office from 11:30 to 3:30, June 1st

to June 4th. Please bring your child's Baptismal Certificate. If you are newly moved to the area, please register at the parish rectory first. If you have been enrolled in another religious pro-gram and wish to transfer to St. Marys, you must enroll first as a parishioner and attend Mass at our parish for a period of one year. After the one year period, you will be able to register in our Religious Education program.

Did you know that St. Mary of the Assumption Parish has a Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima?

Each person or family in the parish is encouraged and welcome to have the statue of Our Blessed Mother in their home for a week to pray with their families and receive many, many blessings.

Please call Denise Mackin at 914 763-3147 to arrange the dates when you would like to have the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima in your home.

May 2015 Dear friends in the Lord: By virtue of our baptism into Jesus Christ, we are all missionaries, beginning with our own families and parishes. Like the apostles, we are encouraged to reach out to our brothers and sisters in faith, love, and sacrifice. We must do our best to contin-ue to build the Lord’s kingdom in our world. We invite you to help build our mission to the mis-sions by supporting the Black and Indian Mission Collection on June 7th. Your support will provide the presence of mission-aries here in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native missions, schools, and religious education programs. Your participation places bi-bles and catechetical materials in the hands of priests, consecrated women and men, and lay lead-ers in Black Catholic communities in the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi; in Native American pueb-los in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, New Mexico; in the far reaching villages of Alaska; and in so many other places. Your sacrifice addresses the need to train catechists, permanent deacons, and seminari-ans for future generations in may of our neighbor-hoods and backyards. Pope Francis reminds us in Lumen Fidei (51); “Faith helps us build our societies in such a way that they can journey towards a future of hope.” Your prayer needs to be constant as, together, we join our hearts and hands, always serving the Chris-tian communities in love and in imitation of Christ, the first missionary sent from the Creator. In solidarity with our Holy Father and with each other: “The hands of faith are raised up to heaven, even as they go about building in charity a city based on relationships in which the love of God is laid as a foundation.” (Lumen Fidei, 51) Thank you for our prayerful support of the Black and Indian Mission Collection. Please be as gener-ous as you can. With gratitude and prayerful best wishes, I am,

Faithfully in Christ, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks

on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
