TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME – September 25, 2016

What does consubstantial mean?

“God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father”

We say it every week at Mass, but do you know what it means? The word “consubstantial” means

“of the same substance.” So, when we say that Jesus is consubstantial with the Father, we are

better expressing our belief in Jesus’ identity as God. Jesus is not just “like” or “similar” to God; He is God. Prior to the new Mass translation that came out in 2011, we used to say “one in being

with the Father,” but consubstantial better captures the idea of Jesus’ divinity and identity as God.

* * * In our weekly “Did you know?” section, we’ll try to

explain “mysteries of the Mass” and other parts of the Catholic faith. If you have a question you’d like to

submit, please email [email protected].

Parishioner in Need

Fellow parishioner and father of three is in the final stage of kidney failure. Since there is no cure, he only has two options: (1) get a kidney transplant, or (2) spend the rest of his life on dialysis. While transplant is the superior quality-of-life choice, it can be the most challenging with tens of thousands of people waiting

ahead of him on the national kidney transplant list. Unfortunately, his family and friends are either incompatible or ineligible to donate. If anyone would like more information about being a living donor,

must have type O blood, please call 845-598-2633.

There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his

door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered in sores, who would gladly have taken his fill of the scrap that fell from

the rich man’s table. Dogs even used to come and lick his sores.  Luke 16: 19‐21

Was Lazarus hungry? ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ Y ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ N

Did the rich man give Lazarus food? ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ Y ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ N

Was Lazarus sick? ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ Y ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ N

Did the rich man give Lazarus any help? ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ Y ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ N

Did anyone in the rich man’s house help Lazarus? ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ Y ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ N

What would you do if Lazarus was at your door? Draw a picture to tell your story...

The rich man did not help Lazarus in his suffering, but when Lazarus died, angels carried him to heaven where he was comforted.
