PASTORAL REFLECTIONS
Dear Parishioners,
Today, September 17, Bishop John Flesey, Auxiliary Bishop of Newark and Episcopal Vicar of Bergen County, will be here to celebrate the noon Mass in which I will be officially installed as the 26th pastor of the Church of St. Mary. Please join me and our staff in welcoming Bishop Flesey once again to St. Mary.
This weekend our Religious Education Program begins. I want to welcome and thank all our Catechists and class assistants who give so much of their time to teach our young people about our faith and traditions. As some of you may know, we are in the process of hiring a new Director of Religious Education. Mary Jo Armen has accepted a teaching position at a high school; we wish her well and God’s speed in her new position.
Now that we are back in “full-swing”, I hope to get to know many of you who I have not met as of yet. It has been a wonderful summer, hopefully a time for rest, vacations, and family time. I am looking forward to this new season of meeting you, ministering with and for you, and together building up the kingdom of God here in Closter.
Please keep in your prayers all those affected by the recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida, and please pray for peace in our world.
Sincerely in the Lord,
Fr. Joe

SPIRITUAL REFLECTIONS ON STEWARDSHIP “For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”
– Romans I 4: 8
This is the essence of stewardship – everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts that God has given us, especially our very own lives. Pray to God, daily, and ask Him how He wants you to use the gifts He has given you.
