Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 19, 2020
FOCUS: God is patient and kind.
Growing in faith is like striving to grow as wheat in a field mixed with weeds. We are faced with temptations, we do not pray as we ought, we are weak and in need of forgiveness. But God is just and kind; he judges with leniency, sends his Spirit to our aid, lovingly nurtures us, and patiently awaits our growth.
LITURGY OF THE WORD: Wisdom speaks of the might and clemency of God, saying, you would permit repentance for their sins. Paul tells the Romans that the Spirit intercedes when we know not how to pray. In the Gospel, Jesus shares three parables about the kingdom of heaven, explaining the meaning of the parable of the weeds to his disciples.
REFLECTION: If we look at our present lives, we can still see what looks like weeds. Rather than being overcome by discouragement, we hear this parable of hope. Time is being given us to work things out, to let the good seed planted in us bear its fruit. We can trust the Owner knows what to do, and we can have trust in the outcome.
So, we ask ourselves:
Where in my life do I want to do better?
What needs changing?
Can I trust that I am not alone in my efforts, but that God is working with me for my well being?

Mission Co-Op The weekend of August 1-2, we welcome Fr. Paul Frechette, a missionary priest from the Society of Mary to our church. Father will share with us his experiences with mission work. There are nearly 230 Marist priests and brothers in the Society of Mary working in schools, seminaries,
and serving the poor in the southwestern Pacific and throughout Africa, Asia, and South America . The sec-ond collection that weekend will be taken up for these missions and we thank you for your generosity.
Mary of Nazareth, the first disciple of the Lord and Mother of the Church,
is the heart of our identity as Marists. This remarkable woman of faith has called us to this way of life.
We believe that we have been called by a ‘gracious choice’ into the family of Mary.
It is her work that we do and so we commit ourselves to
think, judge, feel and act as she did.

Julio 19, 2020 - DOMINGO
