From Fr. John

Thanks to all the volunteers who once again made the Golf Outing and Silent Auction a great success. As the major fundraiser for the parish, I thank George Kingsley, Art Pizzuto, Beth Dorsa, and Patty Goethals for their continued leadership. Thanks also, and most especially, to all who supported the event by attending the dinner, golfing and buying raffles. The event is always a fun occasion and I’m always happy to spend time with you.

We had quite a few families here last weekend for the Blessing of the Animals. Thank you, Deacon Larry Candarelli for doing the honors. As the pets are an important part of your family, so they are also an important part of God’s creation. It was the understanding of St. Francis that all of God’s creation is worthy of praise and blessing. The RCIA Classes for those adults interested in becoming Catholic and/or needing to complete the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation began last Sunday. It is not too late to join the class. Please call the Rectory Office if you would like to join the class. Adults will receive their Sacraments at the Easter Vigil in the spring. I’m grateful to Deacon Ray and the great crew of catechists who teach in the program. Thank you. Next Sunday, October 15th, the Pastor’s Advisory Group will meet with some of the Youth of our parish. We are taking the first steps toward the formation of a Youth Ministry for Holy Spirit. Please keep all our Youth in your prayers. We invite all Seniors to attend the next Senior Group this Friday, October 13th from 10-12Noon in the Parish Activity Center. They already had a movie day and a boat ride on the Hudson. Many more such activities are being planned. This week a guest speaker will give a presentation on Medicare. Join us. I’m grateful to all the volunteers who worked hard to pave the way for a Senior Group in our parish. God Bless… Fr. John

Theology on Tap is Back!! Tuesday, 10/24/17

Join Catholic in Real Life at Taormina Restaurant in Peekskill for an engaging faith-based talk by Fr. Jack Soler. He's a dynamic young priest with a passion for reconnecting Catholics to their faith. There will be food and drinks available for purchase and a question and answer session will follow the talk. Look for flyers on the tables after mass. Mark your calendars and see you there! Theology on Tap is open to all adults 18 +. Please RSVP to [email protected] or Meetup.com/catholic-in-real-life

Do you have a desire to share your faith? Our Religious Ed Program is in need of faithful men and women to help the children of our parish know and love Jesus and learn about our Catholic faith. Volunteers are needed for fifth grades on Wednesday at 4:30. We provide Catechist manuals and resources to help you share our faith. Please contact Elizabeth Kogler at 914-734-9243 for more information.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a special gathering in which children hear the Sunday readings proclaimed in words they understand. They are able to share their understanding of God’s Word. Children's Liturgy introduces them to liturgical worship so they grow in the understanding and love of God and the Mass. Please consider giving one Sunday each month to leading Children’s Liturgy. Please call the Religious Education Office for more information.

The Confirmation Candidate and Parent Meeting is Monday, October 16, at 7:30 p.m. We will be meeting in the church to review the Sacrament of Confirmation and the year’s preparation. If you have any questions, please call the Religious Education Office at 914-734-9243.

MIDNIGHT RUN The time is rapidly approaching for our next “Midnight Run” on Friday, November 10th. As you know, this is our Parish’s way of bringing food, clothing, personal hygiene items and prayer to homeless people living on the streets of NYC. For those willing to donate specifically needed items or make a monetary gift (personal check made payable to Holy Spirit Church with Midnight Run in the memo section or cash in an envelope indicating your name and Midnight Run donation), we have simplified the process. You can go directly to the parish website, (www.holyspirit-cortlandtmanor.org), click on Midnight Run, and directly link to "Signup.com" where you can view the list of items needed and make your selection(s). All donated items will be collected before the Masses on the weekend prior to the run, November 4-5. If you don’t have internet access, or have any questions or problems with donating, please feel free to contact John Beck at 914-737-8863 or [email protected].

The Rotary Community Corp. of Keon Sponsored by the Cortlandt Rotary Club is hosting a bake sale outside the Church next weekend. Please support them by purchasing one of their baked goods.

The Knights of Columbus will be selling chances for the 2017 Charitable and Benevolent Program after all the Masses next weekend, October 14th and 15th. The chances are to win:

Grand Prize - $25,000 2nd Prize - $10,000 3rd Prize - $5,000

Plus 10 Prizes - $1,000 Charities supported by the New York State Council include: catholic education, catholic high school scholarships and grants, Special Olympics and disasters (i.e. hurricane relief, etc.). We thank you for your past support and with God’s help look for your future support. Good luck to all and may God bless you.

Ignore

Ever notice how good it feels to walk away from a fight? That’s why Jesus said, “When someone strikes you on (your) right cheek, turn the other one to him as well” (Matthew 5:39). Next time someone picks a fight, walk peacefully away.
