A Thanks to All for a Wonderful Christmas!
With sincere gratitude, I thank all parishioners who, directly or indirectly, added to the joy of the Christmas season here at Holy Spirit parish. The silent majority are those who are financially generous. With a good understanding of how challenging it is to pay bills and the daily cost of running a parish, I am deeply grateful to all of you! It takes money to have a Church, so you are all appreciated. It also takes parishioners to help keep a Church spiritually vibrant; and we have many parishioners who do exactly that!
We received a million compliments, ok so I’m exaggerating, on the absolutely beautiful manger. Our manger is not only optically gorgeous, but it’s spiritually inspiring. A huge thank you to all those responsible for its set up! Our choirs enhanced all of our Masses. The Adult Choir, Family Mass Band and Children’s Choir, made our liturgies more prayerful and festive. We thank them all for the many hours of practice. The rendition of the One Solitary Life, I believe unique to our parish, is moving and heart felt. Our lectors, extraordinary ministers of communion and our ushers are all committed to the service of our parish, and they did their usual good job this Christmas! Our sacristans, employees and clergy all gave 100% to make this a special time for our parish and local community. We had two Christmas pageants that were a gift from our children: the younger religious education students had theirs on December 19th, and our older children had theirs on December 21st. I hope you were here to experience Christmas at Holy Spirit parish, it truly was a wonderful Christmas! Together, let’s make it a great year!

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
Holy Spirit’s Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are lay individuals in the parish, who are trained to assist the priests or deacons (Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion) in providing timely distribution of communion at our weekday or weekend Masses.
Some Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion also bring communion to those in our parish who are homebound, or unable to come to Mass due to illness.
Special thanks to Jim McCabe for coordinating the schedule for the weekend eucharist ministers, and Loretta Kusk, Anna Rosamilia and Phyllis Thomas for coordinating the weekday schedule. We also appreciate the commitment of all of our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eurcharist who generously give their time.
Any lay person interested in learning more about becoming an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist should contact Father Grieco by e-mail at [email protected].

ReflectionSunday, January 12, 2020 The Baptism of the Lord - Feast(Lec. 21) 1) Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-72) Acts 10:34-383) Matthew 3:13-17
FOCUS: Through our baptism, we are called to a life of discipleship. The Spirit of God descends upon Jesus at his baptism, and marks the beginning of his public ministry. At our baptism, through water and the Holy Spirit, we are sanctified and made children of God. By the grace of this sacrament, we are awakened to the power of the Spirit in our own lives.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
Isaiah shares the Lord’s promise of a servant of the Lord who will come forth and bring justice to the nations. In the second reading, Peter tells those gathered that God shows no partiality. All who fear him and act uprightly are acceptable to him. In the Gospel, Jesus is baptized by John, and the Spirit of God descends upon him.

Parish Ministries - News
RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE Coordinator: Florence ScarinciMARCH FOR LIFE
It has been 47 years since the Roe v. Wade decision made abortion legal. Every year near the anniversary of that momentous decision tens of thousands of people, young and old, travel to Washington D.C. to protest, to lobby, and to try to change hearts and minds.
This year the March for Life will take place on Friday, January 24, 2020 in Washington D.C. If you are able to attend, there will be a bus leaving from Our Lady of Victory church in Floral Park at 5 a.m. The cost of the bus is $25.00. The cost is the same for families as well as individuals. If you wish to attend, please email Florence Scarinci at [email protected] and she will see that your reservation is made.
Parish Social MinistryThe needs of the Food Pantry for this week are:
Personal Items such as bars of soap, toothpaste, shampoo, baby diapers, toilet paper, etc.
Small denomination food cards are always welcome. We appreciate and thank you for all that you do for the pantry.
We also thank Dominick’s Deli, on Herricks Road, for all that they do for our pantry.
Most of us, however, will not be able to attend the March. If you cannot attend, but wish to be in solidarity with the marchers, please join the Respect Life Committee members in Holy Spirit church at 1 p.m. for a holy hour on January 24. In addition to silent prayer and meditation, we will be reciting the Rosary, the Litany of the Blessed Mother, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, asking that the efforts of marchers will bear fruit and the attitude that life is sacred from conception to natural death will prevail.
