A MESSAGE FROM FR. STEVE

tion of tongues. All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. (I Cor. 12:1-11) Upcoming “Two Days of Equipping” for Ministry Training If you’re curious about how to discern and use the gifts God has given you, consider joining us for an upcoming event in early August. Last September, we were blessed to have the team from the John Paul II Healing Center come to present the Healing the Whole Person retreat. I am pleased to announce that Bart Schuchts, Bob’s brother, who was here last year, will come in early August to offer us a two day (Friday evening and Saturday) conference on using our spiritual gifts for min-istry. The description of the program on the JPII Healing Cen-ter website is as follows: This training will help you to live a more dynamic and power-ful faith. You’ll learn how God uniquely speaks to you, and what it means to live in the fullness of Confirmation! Activities include prayer for the release of the Holy Spirit, learning to hear His voice, and practicing praying for others for healing. During this fast-paced training, you will experience the super-natural grace and power that Jesus shared with the apostles, and intends for us today! We have a link to the registration page on our website. Call Liz O’Neill at the office if you have questions (482-4749). I hope to see many of you there. It promises to be a powerful and encouraging event. Next Steps: Connect Groups One of the reasons we offered the Life in the Spirit seminar this year was to create another opportunity for members of the parish to experience an “encounter opportunity” that we have made a prerequisite for becoming part of a “Connect Group” at the parish. We currently have two Connect Groups, and are looking to begin one or more additional groups in the fall. These mid-sized groups offer an opportunity to again experi-ence some of the best elements of Alpha; eating together, prayer, open sharing, and friendship. Connect Groups will meet in a host family’s home every two weeks and are made up of 20-30 people. Each meeting follows a similar schedule, usually from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.:

Arrival Blessing and a potluck meal Icebreaker/Intro Short testimony or talk Small group break-out (3-4 people) to discuss talk Prayer, songs and intercession Wrap-up

If you have been part of Alpha, the Life in the Spirit Seminar, or a similar evangelistic, discussion-based seminar or retreat, and would like more information about Connect Groups, please contact Liz O’Neill at [email protected] or by calling the parish office. With gratitude for God’s gifts to each of us, Father Steve

Great Free Resource: formed.org For a few years now, our parish has subscribed to a Catholic formation online portal called “formed.org”. If you haven’t yet explored the resources, I would definitely encourage you to do so. It provides excellent resources about the Catholic faith, and includes book studies, audio talks, and other, high quality vid-eo materials, including quite a few faith-based movies. There is a link from our website. We have a parish/school code, which will give you access to the website. Our “Parish Code” is 7f0716. The digit after the “f” is a zero, not an “O.”) You will create your own account, using your email address, and then enter the parish code to gain access. If you are a Mac us-er, I would recommend using Chrome or another browser, ra-ther than Safari. In coming weeks, I will give information about a particular series. I would heartily recommend the new series on the Eucharist called “Presence.” God Gives Gifts! Last week, I preached about God’s ongoing healing power in our midst, and mentioned that the Lord gives all the baptized gifts, which the Lord longs for us to “joyfully use . . . “for the building up the Kingdom of God and the salvation of souls,” as we’ve been praying for years. A few weeks ago, I men-tioned the very encouraging words of Blessed John Henry Newman, which highlight the importance of each and every one of us. It’s my desire that we would all know the power of his words: We are all created to [God’s] glory—we are created to do His will. I am created to do something or to be something for which no one else is created; I have a place in God's counsels, in God's world, which no one else has; whether I be rich or poor, despised or esteemed by man, God knows me and calls me by my name. God has created me to do Him some definite service; He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission . . . . Somehow I am necessary for His purposes, as necessary in my place as an Archangel in his . . . . I have a part in this great work; I am a link in a chain, a bond of connexion between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good, I shall do His work; I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place . . . if I do but keep His commandments and serve Him in my calling. (Blessed John Henry Newman) You Have Gifts! Not only does each of us has his/her place, and his/her mis-sion. We are also each given gifts. This is how St. Paul puts it: Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be uninformed. . . . . there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to anoth-er the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpreta-

The Resurrection School Commission has an opening for a new member to start this fall. Member-ship lengths are typically 3-years in duration and can be renewed. If you are interested in serving on the school commission, please email Sara DeWitt ([email protected]), for an application before the July 11th application deadline.

The school commission is comprised of parishioners from the Church of the Resurrection who volunteer their time and expertise for the purpose of supporting development efforts and advising the school leadership within the areas of stra-tegic planning, communications & technology, and facilities & advancement. These three areas of focus correspond directly to workgroups, which commission members serve on through the time of their service on the commission. Each workgroup will have a commission appointed chair-person who will direct development efforts and organize information to present back to the school commission. The entire school commission meets once each quarter, and each workgroup meets at least once in between the quar-terly meetings. If you have any further questions about the role and responsibilities of commission members, please email Jacob Allstott, ([email protected]).

RESURRECTION SCHOOL NEWS Thank you all for your continued prayers for the school. We have hired a new 1st grade teacher, Miss

Kasey Jacobs. The name may sound familiar. She grew up at Resurrection and just completed the teacher educa-tion program at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. We are still interviewing for a Kindergarten teacher. Please contin-ue to pray for this process and for God’s choice to stand out among the other applicants.

Enrollment as of June 25th: 145 students enrolled, 10 ex-pected to re-enroll, 6 prospective, and 1 waitlisted. There are also more families continuing to contact the school each week. We have reached a waitlist in 1st grade and 8th grade. Kindergarten, 2nd and 5th grade may also reach a waitlist this year based on the addition of prospec-tive and re-enrolled students. We are still estimating 155-165 students for this coming fall, which would be an in-crease of 8-15 students from last year.

Thank you again for your prayers for the school and your generosity to the parish. We are so blessed by our parish community and Fr. Steve. I also want to invite families in-terested in scheduling a tour or just inquiring about school to email me. <[email protected]>
