I have heard that it takes four to six weeks for a new behavior to turn into a HABIT. That new behavior could be adding something new to our daily routine, or it could be eliminating something that we no longer want in our daily routine. The Christian radio station that Debi and I listen to the most occasionally gives a challenge. They encourage us to listen only to Christian music for an entire month, and then see if our moods and attitudes will improve as a result. They are convinced that listening exclusively to Christian music will make a big difference in our thoughts and actions. January brings a “clean slate” in many ways = a new month, a new year, and a good time to try a new behavior. Many people make New Year’s resolutions. As we know, few are able to keep them. So, instead of making resolutions on January 1st of 2017, let us prayerfully consider what behavior changes the Lord may be leading us to make in this new year ahead of us. Let us not only look at changing the things that can make a difference in our bodies, but let us also look at changing behaviors that can make a difference in our spiritual lives. Along with increased exercise and decreased calories, let us increase our time spent in prayer, Bible study, Sunday School, worship, Christian fellowship and listening to Christian music. Along with eliminating smoking and irresponsible drinking, let us also eliminate unwholesome talk, gossip, judgmental attitudes, and particular types of movies and/or television programs that we just know are not good for us to view. So = what habits do we want or need to add in 2017? May the Lord help us in developing the types of habits that will make the best difference for each of us for this coming year and the rest of our lives! Have a wonderful and life-changing January!!

THANK YOU to all those who

volunteered during our hosting of The Refuge.

Without all of you we would not be able to provide this ministry

to the community. We had over

100 volunteers!!! YOU are awesome and so appreciated!

Inclement Weather Cancellation Policy

Whenever the Lapeer Community Schools are closed for any

type of inclement weather (temperature, snow and/or ice) the

church office will be closed and all other activities and

meetings canceled (except for Food For Families). This policy is

also for your safety and for ease of clearing and salting

the parking lot.

We would like to thank everyone who showered us with cards, goodies, and special gifts this Christmas Season. Everything was so appreciated! We would also like to thank all of you for your continued support of our ministry here at Trinity! We are so blessed to be among all of you and your faithfulness to God and to this church. We look forward to our continued ministry together in 2017! Grant and Debi Lobb

The Church staff wishes to thank all of you for your generosity this Christmas season with the gifts that were shared! We truly, truly, appreciate the kindness given to us. We look forward to 2017 and in our shared ministry together. Blessings!

Our last meeting for Kid's Street in 2016 was December 14th. After a few weeks off, we will resume on January 18th. Anyone that is interested in helping with this very rewarding program please

contact me at 810-577-4191. A big thank you to all the those who made the first half of this school year such a success. I would like to thank all the Sunday School teachers who go out of their way to make their classes so special. It has been so much fun watching and seeing what is going to happen next. We have had the gathering of the socks-where the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades asked for donations of socks and in just a couple of weeks gathered over 260 pair; and the seasonal crafts that the classes have been making have been awesome! A special thanks to Barb Coon and her class for letting me sit in and make a nativity set with them. I can't wait to see what you all come up with in the new year. Happy New Year! Debbie Muldoon, Christian Ed Director

The youth are alive and thriving. We have made it through the holiday season and are ready to focus on a bright 2017.

There are several seniors that are facing the reality of graduation and beginning a new adventure. At the same time they are using the present time to grow in their own walk of faith. At present, they are reading the book of Genesis. Each week, the senior high youth read a few chapters on their own and we have a discussion, then we read a chapter or two aloud on Wednesday nights. The junior high youth, who are led by Steve and Sarah Shelton on Wednesday, are doing Bible Study as well. There is always room for new youth. If you have a child that might be interested, bring them in and they will be welcomed by all of the youth.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

Happy New Year! The United Methodist Women regretfully were unable to hold our December fun night due to inclement weather. We are in the process of finalizing our plans and program book for 2017. We are still in need of women to provide refreshments for many of the meetings. If you can help out, please call me at 810-656-0964.

Our officers will be installed at the services on January 8. We will not be having a regular unit meeting this month. Our first meeting in 2017 will be in February. Watch the bulletin and the February Messenger for further details on this meeting.

Kathy Dawley, President

The ‘LADIES' NITE-2016’ event this past December 4 was SENSATIONAL, treating 79 attendees to a SCRUMPTIOUS MEAL, followed by the MAGNIFICENT musical presentation from RON ELROD, (and we're going to have him BACK, in late Spring 2017).

Our January 9 meeting is at LEO'S RESTAURANT, at 6:30 p.m., with a very "meaty" program presented by Craig Gormley on the subject of "CCW" sometimes referred to as RIGHT TO CARRY a firearm. So, PLAN on attending this very informative program and get the "straight scoop," from his program, IN GOD WE TRUST. Please use the "sign-up sheet" so that we can properly plan for "the room." PUT THIS EVENT ON YOUR SCHEDULE!! Chuck Bennett, President

SPECIAL NOTE: Due to Lapeer County changing the school calendar and extending Christmas break to include Tuesday January 3

rd,

our MOPS group will only be meeting on January 17th.

Here at MOPS we have some amazing speakers that come in and share with us. We had two gentlemen from the finance world come and share about living trusts and wills, debt consolidation, and savings. Pastor Lobb brought us our annual Christmas message, and we have a very inter-esting upcoming speaker on human trafficking coming in to share.

Mark your calendars!! Spring MOM2MOM sale will be 5/6/17

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!

The Leisuretimers are planning a potluck lunch and bingo on

Valentine’s Day!

Stay tuned for more details.

Cold weather can bring health challenges we should all remember.

Anyone with heart disease should be cautious. Cold causes the blood vessels to constrict which forces the heart to pump harder to circulate blood through the body. This raises heart rate and blood pressure, and if combined with exercise, can lead to angina or heart

attack. Exercise such as shoveling snow, is a common cause of angina. Remember, even if you haven’t been treated for a heart problem, heavy exercise can unmask an underlying condition. Symptoms may include chest heaviness or pressure, fatigue, light headedness, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath. If these occur, stop immediately and rest. If the symptoms do not resolve within 2-3 minutes, seek medical attention immediately. If the symptoms do resolve, make an appointment with your doctor before you try again just to be sure all is well. If you do work outdoors in cold weather:

1. Dress warm enough with layers and good safe footwear. 2. Cover nose and mouth with a scarf or face mask. 3. Wait for 45-60 minutes after eating before working

outdoors. 4. Take rest breaks when tired, not when the job is done.

Frostbite is seen in the ER every winter and can “sneak up” on us. Stage 1 is also called frostnip. There is a feeling of “pins and needles”, throbbing, aching or numbness in the affected area. When the skin is rewarmed it may be red or pink and cold sensitive for a few days. Stage 2 is superficial frostbite. In this case the affected skin turns very pale white and firm. When rewarmed the skin turns purple or blue and blisters may form. This may require medical attention if the affected area is large, pain is severe or the individual has other underlying medical conditions such as diabetes. Medical attention will be needed for any signs of infection at the site or if the person feels ill or has fever. Stage 3 is severe frostbite. This is most often seen on the feet, hands or face and is more likely if the area is wet. People with poor sensation in the feet or hands may not feel how severe the damage is becoming. The skin on rewarming will turn black, hard and be painful. This must have medical attention and could require surgery to remove damaged tissue. Use caution in severe wind chill conditions. Be sure to wear gloves and boots and cover most of face and ears. Limit exposure time as much as possible, it can take less than 5 minutes to get a Stage 2 frostbite.

“Taking Down of the Christmas Decorations”

Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.

We had a great turnout for hanging this year's decorations. Due to a few of the “decorators” heading south for the winter season, I hope we can get more people to sign up for the “taking down.” Please consider this opportunity. This has turned into a time of church family fellowship both during work and around refreshments. It has been heartwarming to see all ages working together on a project. If you plan to help, please sign the Sign-Up Sheet on the Welcome Table in the church lobby in case we need to notify you that there is a change of date / time due to inclement weather, funeral, etc. Contact Linda Hess at (810) 441-0640 if you have any questions. Hoping to see you on January 7th.

We will continue to use last year’s procedure in 2017 to sign up for altar flowers. Since all al-tar flowers need to be PREPAID ($25), envelopes have been prepared and made available for the purpose of ordering flowers. The envelopes are in the clear container on the wall next to the Flower Calendar.

There is space on the envelope to write the requested date, your name and the names of those being honored or remembered. Please complete the information on the envelope and submit it to the office by either putting it into the offering plate or through the mail slot in the main office door. When your payment and information is received, the office will reserve your date and update the Flower Calendar. Please do not write on the Flower Calendar. It is only being used for viewing available dates.
